You could hardly move for monsters and representations of real animals. One of the first participants that we noticed was the dear old Mulassa of Tarragona who we had seen a couple of days before in the Baixada de l’Aliga but there were lots of creations that were new to us in various states ...

Quickie Tour of Barcelona and Andorra

... same direction and we finally decide that I will follow the signs towards Spain and Barcelona until we are out of Andorra and then maybe the GPS won't be lost anymore.

The police haven't started manning the intersections yet and we make it out of Andorra without a problem and they aren't pulling people into bays at either border so no worries there but there is a lot of traffic. Luckily most of the traffic is not heading to Barcelona so we are back on ...

Hanging with the locals

... was pretty interesting. We ended up running into various local shops and stopped at a few on our way. We found the Cathedral and decided to continue on to find
the Picasso Museum. It was recommended by another tourist (an orthopedic surgeon from Cali) we ran into on the bus who happens to be friends with the brother who owns the Hotel de Pari in Monte Carlo. He has “big money” friends obviously.

Again this map was horrible. After ...

While there we visited the Seville Cathedral which at time of its completion was the largest cathedral in the world and is currently the third largest in the world as well as being the largest gothic church. It doesn't really look that large from outside but once inside its true scale was evident. It central chamber is absolutely huge and grand. This morning as I was sobering up, I had a convo with the hostel host about last night. I told her about how I was not allowed into the club despite my proper dress code attire, nice hair, and charming smile. She said she use to work ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Fira Palace Barcelona

    Wow, well worth the money

    from anonymous

Afer several months of research for the perfect hotel for my husband and my vaction, I banked on the reviews of Tripadvisor.com. I am very glad we did. The Fira was perfect. It was clean, convient, a taxi hub, had a pool a work out area with classes everyday, an oversized room (even for Florida standards), fully stocked bathroom with bathtub and shower as well as an another shower stall with a multihead jets. The metro was a 5 minute walk. The plaza was the best in Barcelona with a nightly light and music fountain show. Very romantic.

I looked into several other hotels and later came across them in our travels, our choice was the best. Everything on Las Ramblas was a joke.

    Great location. Huge rooms.

    from anonymous

Despite what the website says, our room was not soundproof. I was awakened by a baby crying at 4am. Also, there is a schoolyard directly in front. So plan your siesta after 3pm on weekdays. Other then that, the hotel was awesome. Huge room has a big bed, writing table, couch with coffee table. The bathroom has a fantastic shower with 3 shower heads. It also has a bath with a shower. Dual sinks with enough counter space for all my stuff and seperate room with toilet. The hotel is in a great location. We walked mostly but if you need a cab, it costs about 3-4euros from the hotel to the train station...cabs are right outside the hotel and Sundays are more expensive.

    Couldn't find a better hotel

    from anonymous

This hotel was perfect! The staff was helpful, the rooms were very large (American large). The bathroom was large enough for 2 people to share at the same time. We asked for an upgrade and they had one and cheerfully gave it to us. The breakfast was a buffet and very good. It was in an excellent location (10-15 minute walk from the Espanyola metro station). It was good to be in a quiet location after being in the noisy city all day. Taxis were always available in front of the hotel. Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Barcelona and would definitely stay there again!

    Fabulous hotel and superb location!!!!

    from anonymous

I agree completely with all of the reviews. This hotel is fabulous with huge rooms and the location is walking distance from EVERYTHING (bring your sneakers!!!) I would definnitely recommend this hotel and it will be my hotel of choice whenver I am in Barcelona. Also the rates are great!!! I got the best deal on expedia.

    Great location to explore from

    from anonymous

I found this hotel very comfortable and an ideal place from which to explore Barca. The staff are quite friendly and very proficient in English. The room itself was very large and quite sufficient for the two of us. Central Barca (Placa Catalunya) is just 3 metro stops away from Placa Espanya - a 10min stroll from Hotel. I work out regularly and found their gym among the best ive ever seen - very good facilities for the fit folks.

One point though, room service is a bit pricey for what you actually get.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this amazing city.

    Great for a family

    from anonymous

We stayed by the week of Valentines Day, 2004.The hotel is huge with a lot of amenities. It offers free stay for the kids under 12 (maximum 4), which is not common in European hotels. The rooms have double queen beds with plenty space for the family with beautiful bathroom. Located in a quit and a convenience location. All Montjuic attractions are in walking distance, nice walk to "plaza Espana". A lot of "tapa" places around. The buffet breakfast is served in a pleasant restaurant and all staff is friendly and courteous. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a modern hotel in the admirable city of Barcelona.

Comfortable, convenient - great base for exploring Barcelona

    from testerooni

We stayed here in Jan 04. As advertised, the rooms are very large, quite comfortable, and clean; we also used the sofabed, and there was still plenty of space. The bathrooms had separate shower and toilet compartments. The wireless internet worked well.

The location makes it easy to enjoy Montjuic (museums, Olympic sites, parks,); we walked everywhere, although some weren't close. Great evening fountain show at the Paleo National just down the street.

It was a short walk to Placa Espanya (direct train to Monserrat, main metro station, stop for Bus Turistica). We used bus and metro to other sites.

We found the hotel breakfast buffet very expensive and only ok. I wish there had been more restaurants in close proximity. The hotel bar was very reasonable.

The staff was friendly. We were very pleased with the hotel.

    Loved this place

    from anonymous

I was there for a convention and loved this place. Loved the fact that it had two showers in case you are sharing the room. The room itself is great, nice and big. The location is good, it is in Plaza España. Close drive to las ramblas. If I go back, I would definetly stay there.

    Highly recommended

    from DeanoFromLeeds

Small entrance leading into large, cool lobby with quiet piped music.

Pleasant, friendly Reception staff. My standard room (Expedia bargain!) had 2 double beds, sofa, writing desk, comfortable chairs, TV, good air-con/blackout curtains/soundprooofing. Bathroom had 2 washbasins, bath/shower, plus separate shower and toilet cubicles, and more towels than I own!

Everything spotlessly clean.Breakfast good value and excellent quality.

Espanya metro station 6-7 min. walk, but bus #55 stops just across the road and takes 10 min. to the main Placa de Catalunya and the Ramblas.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    Quiet & Relaxing

    from dofter

My husband and I stayed here 31-Jan-03 for 2 nights. Simple, BIG, clean rooms with impressive bathrooms. Staff were helpful. Quiet, safe area. 3 minute stroll to the metro Espanya. Right next to Mont Juic. Would stay again.
