... I guess but that's just how I feel. But it didn't deter me from the place and I still loved it. We had one massive full day where we explored around aktropoli (the red beach) which was awesome. However the sand is black (thus super hot) and you have to pretty much pay to set up a base. It was 4 euro each for a chair so we decided to lay our towels behind this rope just in front of the cliff face. After swimming around for half an hour (it was boiling; the water was the only ...

And cute Greek dogs...not hot dogs...dogs! They are polite...move out of your way...they are lazy at mid-day and rambunctious in the evening. It had started raining and blowing again so we stayed close to ...

... small port that used to serve as the town’s ferry port before being replaced. Now it serves as a dropping off point for the cruise ships, and the dock for excursion boats to the volcano. Nathan and I decided to hike down to the old port to check it out, since the gondola ride down is grossly overpriced.

The long and winding pathway down to the dock would have been challenging enough, with the smooth and slippery cobblestones giving little traction for my worn out shoes ...

... in the harbor so the paths are uncrowded. It is the end of the season here and merchants seem anxious to move what remains of their inventories so they have cash for the winter. I buy nothing—as is my habit—but many of my shipmates carry bags of things acquired. I run into Jackie and Bob, Barbara and Mandy, Peggy and the Captain; the town on the hill is ours alone.
