    Spend around 4 nights in Matsumotta, used it as a base to do the Magome- Tsumago Trail, Kamikochi and the Wasabi farm

    The hostel I stayed in, had a great escape plan, one route was the front door, the other through a window, unfortunately someone would need to cut back all the trees+ plans in order to have a quick escape :)

    I travelled to Matsumoto with an old friend from university. On the first day of the trip, we visited Matsumoto Castle and walked around the streets of Matsumoto, tasting some local foods including basashi, sanzokuyaki and sansei, local sake. On the next day, we drove along Venus Line, stopping at Utsukushigahara Highland and Mt Kirigamine.

    We decided on viewing the Matsumoto Timepiece Museum, which displays a collection of timepieces over the centuries, starting with a sundial and a candle. Originally the timepieces were in the City Museum, but a local citizen, Mr Chikazo Honda, donated his entire collection of timepieces to the museum and encouraged others to do the same, which led to the collection to be housed separately in its own museum ...

    ... Matsumoto famous for its castle amongst other things...not again, I hear you sigh.... This visit was slightly marred as on entering the castle and the normal procedure of removing shoes there was a steep wooden flight of steps which an elderly Japanese man managed to fall back from the top about 8' back to the bottom onto a stone floor, he was unconscious as people rushed to call for help, I felt pretty helpless as I watched him fall but the ambulance was there within ...
