... hostel and again just chilled trying another Japanese beer . We then decided that we couldn't avoid trying Okinomiyaki which is famous to Osaka . We went to a restaurant and they cooked the Okinomiyaki for us and then put it on the hot plate in front of it. Even though it was so small it was thick and very filling . Very different to home as well . It was a wonderful first day in Kyoto. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. ...

... in the museum and my understanding is that a printing of a beautiful woman was highly valued and a noble artistic topic of study. We were entranced by a few and once you see the delicacy of the carved wooden lines and the detail of color and form on these prints it is hard to tear your eyes away. The work and the dedication of these printings is phenomenal and in my mind much superior to the paint splattered canvases we attribute to modern art...but what do I know?

... the castle as we climbed the steep stairways the the top and the offering of rice is still there as well, renewed each month to protect the castle.

The castle itself has 6 floors, although only 5 are visible from the outside. the 3rd floor is without windows or arrow slits and was protected more or less. This room was used for storage of food and supplies, however, and did not shelter any human beings hiding from assault. ...

... day we stayed in Haruno Madoka and I spent the afternoon swapping culinary ideas and she taught me how to make a traditional version of mochi! I had made these before at my host in Yamanashi but I have to say that the way Madoka makes them is much more tasty from a western palette.
