... with dues paid for an hour, we found Valkenburg to be a pleasant small town. Suitably provisioned with new pukka cereal bowls we had time for an expensive, but truly excellent lunch-time coffee/chocolate in the main square. Duly replete we headed towards Koblenz at the start (end actually) of the Mosel. Tired of motorways Wanda wanted to try the side roads. Progress was slow, with GPS man continually wingeing that he wanted to go on the motorway. Slow enough that ...

And, as a cherry on top, a castle.  I strolled over the bridge and walked in the narrow streets. Wine and wine making is big in this region, especially whites. Awesome day out. The drive from Luxembourg to Cochem was 1.5 hours. Mostly on the motorway. Our friend Bob (the GPS) gave good directions once Karen learned what to do. Moselle river was as green and lush as expected, the grape vines clinging to the steepest of slopes.

We visited just a few of the towns - Cochem, Burg Etiz (the Etiz castle), Beilstein ...

We enjoyed spending the morning sailing on down the Main and joining the Rhine River late morning. This stretch of the trip is one of the prettiest sections of the trip. The river is surrounded on both sides by miles of vineyards and many many castles. The small quaint towns are like stepping back in time. The bummer part of the morning ...

... 2-3 hours it was pleasant riding. The cycle paths were all along side the main roads as there is much were else to put them. There are vines being grown up all the valley sides wherever there is a spare piece of topsoil. The guesthouse/hotel is nice and the owners made us an evening meal. I had the homemade ravioli whereas the two carnivores went for the chicken and rump ...
