Decided to have an easy day 125km to Guaymas a coastal port, thought it might be a bit more appealing for a Sunday. More desert with occasional crops and more Mex 15. There are bandits on this road taking tolls $59 pesos on a regular basis. I is very fair though $59 for tourists and $6 for locals.
Guaymas was not that startling but OK for a Sunday, they are trying to smarten up the port and ...
... Seasoned... or bloody hot". We decided to keep moving on as the RV park turned out to be an American tourist trap, asking crazy rates to stay. It was another 90+ km to the port town of Guaymas, so we decided to give it a go, as we knew could make it before dusk.
For people who want to travel down the Baja, Guaymas is the port town that ferries vehicles from the Baja to mainland Mexico. We found an RV site here over-looking the inner harbor and the Gulf of ...
Here, in amongst the big rigs, in a real trailer park, it seems a bit surreal. We're so small and frail in our little van, and all these giant 5th wheel things and mohomes surround us like a wolfpack cornering a rabbit. A bit intimidating, but apparently we're safe: no-one ever comes out of them at night.........
Guaymas, Northern Mexico, Mexico ddgfraser... Our first of many stops happened to be an old mission (can you read Church). I think this was a very appropriate stop considering that it is the 2 of us!!! Mission San Xavier del Bac www.sanxaviermission.org Then, after 178 miles we made it to the border. No hassles or problems since we got our vehicle permits before hand. We will ...
San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico ottoman37... least it didn't rain like it usually does every night. Yesterday we had a group tour to Cholula's pyramid. Most of it is buried, but some stairs and other parts of it are showing. On top of everything is this church called Nuestra Senora de los Remedios, but we didn't get to climb up to it. To get to the pyramid, we had to walk for a while through a pretty creepy tunnel. I climbed the stairs of the pyramid, saw some bones, and where they sacrificed people ...
Cholula, Mexico jeschica... bumpy ride. Kerry had a funny experience whilst on our 10 hour bus ride. When going to the toilet, she forgot to lock the door and was thrown out of the toilet into the aisle with her pants around her ankles as the bus was going over speed humps. Those of you who know Kerry well will not be surprised to learn that she didn´t learn from this experience, and went back into the toilet to collect herself and wash her hands. Not locking the door again ...
San Cristobal and Palenque, Mexico nicface... por ahora....)
Mexico city, Mexico viajando... to make a pee stop in a clean cafe (always an important decision) and so we could walk through the markets leading to the basilica. The corridor leading to the basilica is a space where faith meets capitalism. I know that this isn't too foreign idea, but it is quite the spectacle of consumerism. Vendors line the way selling every imaginable variation of the Virgin of Guadalupe. You can purchase medallions of the virgin, little plates; t-shirts, large plaster statues, or light ...
Mexico city, Mexico autumn... to our houses by 11:30. Then, we had our big meal of the day at 2. It was first- vegetable soup, then rice with little pieces of corn, and then some kind of meat with potatoes. The meat was really good, she said something along the lines of pig... Then dessert was ice cream! I really enjoyed the meal. Then at 3:30 we head to meet up to walk to school. We had class from 4-7 where I got to go one on one with my teacher. He only talked to me in Spanish, but I ...
