Home to the first winery in the Americas..........

Accommodation

Hotel La Siesta, Acuna No. 9, Tel: (01 842) 422-0374. Their current rates were 300 + 400 peso for 1 or 2 persons. The small, en-suite rooms come with cable TV but are a little overpriced for what's on offer.

More of Torreon

... in the states for many years then helped put her husband through school in Mexico City. He is an Architect. For supper (cena), Salvador, Reymond and myslef went to Señora Juanitas. Six of them live in a small house with three canarys and a turtle. Reymond told his testimony and his days in the navy. He has been in the work in Mexico for 51 years ...

... for the night. They have three boys and have just presented me with a gift from mexico. Friday has been quite free. Spent a couple hours "touring". Tortilla factories; men renovating houses. Early supper we went to Sra. Moreno's for supper. Her husband does not profess, but she stays faithful. A few of us drove to the park and played soccer till it was dark.

day 40- Puebla to Queretaro

... it but we did so very successfully, without any real directions mistakes-- not bad considering all we had was guidebook maps! We decided to go to Queretaro, about a two and a half hour trip. Another pleasant drive along good highways-- I even took a turn behind the wheel and enjoyed it. Another toll-y day: at Puebla: $31; at Mexico City: $88; two at Queretaro- $65 and $60 respectively. We thought we ...

After the Cantina, we decide to check out a unusual disco, which has been built inside a disused silver mine.It is meant to be amazing but as the lads and the girls were wearing flip flops we were refused entry. Instead we try another bar which is full so we settle for the only place that is left....a Gay caberet bar. inside is what looks ...

San Miguel 2nd entry

... and is called Three Kings Day. It was the day the Kings came to see the baby Jesus. There is a local market, not too far from our house that has a huge toy sale that goes well into the night, around 4am. It is held the night before on January 5th. It has everything from clothing, dolls, cars, and puppets, to cookies and candies. The day after Three Kings Day there was a lot going on in the Jardin, main square. Groups were arriving throughout the day. The first group to come in ...

feliz nuevo año

... interesting city with lot´s to offer, but being a country girl at heart it´s hard living in a city with all the noise especially. At the end of the week we will be heading to Morelia and then to the monarch butterfly sanctuario. And we will visit the playa (beach) before heading back stateside. I´ll try to write more later, It´s been a long day and I have salsa (dance) lessons tonight!

settling in

... México now. we really like them both and are going to have a Xmas dinner with them on the 24th. They want to fix everything for us! The weather here is not what some of you think. It get´s pretty cold at night and none of the houses have heat.(We have thick blankets)During the days it sometimes warms up to t shirt weather if it´s sunny otherwise it can stay cool. But compared with winter in the nw who could complain?

Superman has nothing on me

... envious of the french girl who looked like she was taking lots of great photos without any problem feeling awkward - and she could speak spanish - pah!). The time for the superman bit. The train apparently regularly runs about 2-3 hours late (don´t ask me why they don´t change the timetable?!) and I don´t know the reason? Scenery on the line? Anyway, we pulled into Creel at 5, I literally crossed the tracks (and felt naughty after ...

Rest Day At Last!

... room was okay (certainly better than the rooms we spent the first few nights in Mexico in), Dan really didn't like it because it had no natural light. So we didn't waste too much time before going straight back out and having a wander into the town centre of Zacatecas. After a meal at one of the many restaurants to choose from, we came back and had a fairly early night. We were awoken around 3am to the sound of a television blaring in the room ...
