Well, after another nice long bus ride (made longer by the many-hour delay at the border, for no apparent reason), we arrived in Monterrey. Our main goal here was simply to break the bus ride from Houston to Mexico City into two more managable parts, by arriving here in the morning, exploring, and leaving again in the evening. And it worked -- we left our bags in the luggage storage in the bus station and went exploring for ...
Monterrey, Northern Mexico, Mexico kimandjohnThe whole stay here has just been strange. The first morning here I preached in a church - in spanish! First time since 2006! Even though I took out my guages and put in clear spacers, they asked me to take them out, as well as my eyebrow ring. They said I need to be "all things to all men" although that is not what it is talking about. The ministry gave us a nice little apartment for 5 days (full of cockroaches) in a ...
Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico robandmillie... br> When we arrived at the church, we met the pastor in the back. They told me that I had to speak, yet this was news to me. I declined nicely, and they kept pushing me until Rob said "She doesn't want to!" They had a shocked look on thier face. See, I really felt that I wasn't supposed to. <br> So we walked into the church, which was more like an overcrowded room. I entered the pew and the woman to the left of me was ...
Monterrey, Northern Mexico, Mexico millieradosti... Plenty of Irish ballads and music pumping from the car helped along with Packies singing! We stayed with friends of my uncles' called the Garzas for two nights. They also showed us around the city and surrounding areas, brought us out for dinner and generally gave us an amazing time! We went to the beautiful lake town of Santiago where Ever has a summer house and ...
Monterrey, Northern Mexico, Mexico dixieannie... anxiety, and loneliness, and (3) reintegration and adaptation, where you gradually adjust to your environment. During the flight, I felt a sudden pang of anxiety. How would I communicate? What will it be like? I was scared of not being in control... As soon as I got there, I realized that many people here actually speak English and that my limited Spanish was enough to get me through. After studying six years of ...
Monterrey, Mexico serenebambooArriving at the airport!! ahh freaking out still not knowing if my friend was going to be there waiting for me. I was an hour later then nwhat i orginally was going to be so there could have been any chance that no one was at the airport waiting for me. Picking up my bag off the machine, while keeping every eye out for my amigo, looking looking jaja Ahhhhh Yay!! :D i see him im happy now. Driving from the airport in monterrey to sabinas a small townlike 3hours away way ...
Monterrey, Mexico kiwi_kid... apparently the tour changes depending on how much water is present in the caves, or how the rocks are. it was slippery in some places but mostly it was just covered in concrete paths. Saturday was fun! we went to Texas to buy clothes. apparently Texas is the cheapest place to buy clothes, with Monterrey having prices as much as double. i got a haircut too. it was such a strange feeling to finally once again feel like i ...
Monterrey, Northern Mexico, Mexico jhaddon... a destination at a mid-mountain behind Monterrey. as we were driving Marichu told me about the wildlife in this park as i noticed an eagle soaring above... she also mentioned that there were bears, something she later said she was joking about... but suprisingly enough, we saw a black bear mother and two cubs!! Mexican bears look very similar to Canadian bears I think. I ...
Monterrey, Northern Mexico, Mexico jhaddon... where Jon entertains us with beautiful piano music. Myrna is the sister to the late Juvantino Valdez who wrote hundreds of hymns. Very nostelgic as this is where he was from. The morning starts with traditional Yerba Matte from Chile. It feels good to be back in the habit. Breakfast seems like it;s their largest meal! An outpouring from the cosina (kitchen). The morning is spent doing the local sightseeing of the ...
Monterrey, Mexico tstewy... are judged by their clothes in Mexico....interesting eh. I'd consider that to be the way with a lot of wealthy Latinos actually but given my limited experience so far, I will have to rely on time to tell. It certainly lends to the theory that there is severe inequality between the rich and poor. It was a good night anyway...and a great week with the Mexicans, (so sound and funny) Thankfully I didn´t have much of a hangover for the bus we were taking to Zacatecas on the Sunday.....
