    Felling flowers

A travel blog entry by roundaboutus on Apr 11, 2015

I pulled on thick protective trousers, zipped up the back, my hot black anorak, the straps and thick chainsawing gloves...brush cutting here we come. I love the repetitive swing of the machine, it's high pitched whine and the satisfaction of felling triffids! Aubons (porrasa) are about 4' high. A strong fleshy stalks sprout from long green leaves and explode with white flowers. The dried stems can be used to create ...

We've just celebrated Easter, with a fast amount of food! Three things seem important here. Gigantic platters of lamb, thick walled pastries and family. I was lucky enough to be invited to join my friend Seb's family. The interior a cross between ...

Mediterranean robins have bright red tails rather than rosy breasts. I had the company of two friendly birds as I tore bemudan grass out of the ground today, tugging long lengths that ripped at my hands and snapped. I've moved to my second placement, to a town called Alaro. Sarah, Jason and Anna (13 yrs old on Sunday) have been based on the island for 20 years. I had an immensely content morning clearing and weeding carefully amongst the leeks. "It's wet, then it's ...

So here we are, one final blowout before it's back to the mundane reality of real life, and even worse, married life for the man of the hour. Still well and truly on one from the boat trip most of us thought best to savour the delights of the Marina Barracuda's all inclusive buffet. Whilst this was a good idea given the night ahead, the food was nothing ...
