Wobbling Towards the Vortex of Ondoy’s Wrath

... in the open. It was this same instinct that made me stay in my modest room in a hotel along Kalayaan Avenue in Quezon City when Ondoy, a.k.a. Ketsana, pounded Central Luzon last Saturday, September 26. It was this sixth sense which insisted that I was safer there.

A day before going to Manila to attend a national conference of statistics practitioners in Diliman, I’ve heard about Ondoy’s coming. But I was ...

a great day out had by all (us) included getting there and back on the railway, this is mostly overhead so you get to see the street scene go by. something weird is its segregated into a female only section and then the rest of us (men and couples who want to travel together)!!
Ocean park was really something with many fish from all over the world, some highlights were a glass tunnel through a tank and also a glass bottomed boat. The top of the shark tank was open on the second floor ...

We're here!

Hi everybody! We arrived safely in Manila last night around midnight. No major incidents or adventures this time...which is probably a good thing. We flew...backwards...to Minneapolis St. Paul...before flying all the way to Tokyo. From there, we hopped down to Manila. Altogether, we think the travel time was more than 26 hours. It's Monday a 8:30 AM local Manila time. It's 13 hours ahead of our home time zone. We're running on about 5 ...

... anyway? As long as they don't ask me to carry their suitcases, it was fine with me. The last two stops were the Folded Brocade Hill, another historic view, the walls of which were decked with Chinese inscriptions and Buddhist sculptures, and the Elephant Trunk Hill, which resembles an elephant dipping its snout into the Li River. We took another ferryboat to get the best glimpses of those hills and we wasted no time in posing for pictures. By this time, I was already feeling a little bit ...

Week 49 back to Manila again

... into the Chury 'La Hotel, spruced up and met them after their Uni classes. They all had part time evening jobs at a local hotel...and their main job was to sing Karaoke (Oh Sweet Jesus). Bontoc being a town of **** all to do (again, drinking curfew at 9pm...apparently due to the amount of killings and fights after drinking the local gin) we stayed at the hotel til closing time (10pm). During that time a lot of beer was consumed. I've never been that smitten with Karaoke ...

... for. I had to wait while woman's haircut came to an end. The people there seemed amused that a foreigner had dropped in. As it is, the only foreigners I've seen outside of my hostel are older caucasian men walking hand in hand with Filipinas. There were a few women sitting around inside. They wanted to know a bit about me. One who was sipping a coffee said that another thought I was cute, and wanted to know if I was available. When someone asks on behalf of a ...
