... we got a few hours of sun before more thunderstorms came. The next morning it POURED with rain..so heavy it wasnt funny. It stopped it the afternoon and we drove round the island. Everything was being whipped by the wind and the gorgeous turquoise beaches you see on the postcards were being churned up... great. Next day was lovely and we got to go the beach, but had to contend with ...
Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy emmasadventuresNon ero mai stato all'Isola d'Elba.
Biadola 10, Cavoli 10, Procchio 9, Lacona 7

Punta Ala, Italy jpsaby... that brought to mind. Then the Isola Pianosa came into view, with Elba also visible in the clouds further ahead. Elba looked unspoilt, with small cliff-top villages perched between the sea and the clouds. Over to the west we could see a high grey profile of Corsica. By about 16:00 we had reached our anchorage ...
Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy pete-r... around 12:30pm. It's a pretty big island full of small towns every couple miles. We stayed in the town called Porto Azzurro (I don't remember exactly which direction it was on the island..) and it was very cute. We had a really good pizza for lunch and then went and jumped into the Mediterranean Sea...just because we could. Had a good dinner later that night and then hung out on the beach with ...
Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy eowens2... to govern). History would have been very different if this fairly small scale event hadn't taken place. It's odd that Napoleon was exiled to Elba after his defeat, given his birthplace of Corsica is visible, and it's very close proximity to the mainland of Italy, making it very easy to escape. He was only there 9 months before escaping, but apparently organised the administration, and carried out a series of economic and social reforms to improve the quality of life in the short ...
Elba Island, Tuscany, Italy everardt... culture instead of talk about it, are forced to speak languages instead of barely using them and we are not stuck in classrooms all the time. It's a hundred times more interesting listening to long history lectures when I know that the next day I'll be inside a church that was built by one of the main figures in a story. I never wanted to leave Elba, but it wasn't too tough to go back to Firenze, and tomorrow I'm visiting Cinque Terre!
Elba, Italy kthleeny... walked to the museum that has the original sculpture of David by Michaelangelo. This was really impressive, and I am not an art and culture lover. After that we walked the city in the early evening and went to dinner at ZaZas. What a cool place, as usual the food and desserts just get better. I guess they are all good but unique to each restaurant. We have tended to ...
Florence, Italy sue_and_steveGreat Island! It belongs to the Tuscany region and is next to Livorno where you can take a ferry to arrive. We travelled around the island with our teacher and classmates and visited some geological interesting points. We will probably come back... but this remains a mystery...
