After a lazy morning, we had lunch in Balk at a little fish shop by the river.
Then we went to Lemmer
This little harbour on Friesland has been the destination of our family for many a trip. Papa used to sail from here on his friend's yacht. So we often came to visit, when they were getting ready to leave or when they had just returned.
I remember many hours watching the boats go through the lock and watching boats leave the marina.

Stavoren is the oldest city in Friesland and has a beautiful harbour. We could all have sat for hours watching the ships go in and out. But we wanted to see the dam the Dutch built to create the large lake that now serves to increase the landmass of the country.

We had a little walk (you could circumnavigate the place in 30 min.) and took lots of pictures.
We knew the village from when we were children. We have been here many times.
But this house we are staying in, is on a new estate. Well it is 20 years old maybe. And we are enjoying the modern facilities.
