... Today almost every object Meissen has ever created (175000) is still in production. Watching the demonstrations you realise why the things created are so expensive, all is done by hand by very skilled crafts people and there is much use of gold! Our local guide then took us on a walking tour of the 1000 year old city exploring the narrow streets, pretty squares and steep steps that lead up to the castle hill. This ...

This took us 1.5km along a busy shopping street to eventually bring us back to the river path having gained a net distance of 300m! The planned hotel in Meissen was up a very steep hill ...

... of people camping with us).

We had coffee early, lunch early, and more water breaks that we usually take today. There was, of course, the inevitable Umleitung that forced us onto the B192 for a few kms, thankfully it is Sunday and there is not much traffic. Through Paussnitz we had 1km of cobblestones with no alternative footpath and after speeding into Lossrig at 23km/hr with a tailwind we struggled for about 2.5km at 11km/hr with ...

... was plentiful in the quarries in the surrounding area. When you are walking up inside the dome, you don't realise you have such a weight of sandstone hanging over your head! The brochure explaining the history of the church has a panorama map of the city on one side, so it makes it easy to identify landmarks across Dresden when you are looking down on the city. We hired bikes on our second day, riding along the river marvelling at the height ...
