All up at 6.45am and out of the hostel, which we were quite sad to leave, at 7.45am. An hour later after buying breakfast from where else but McDonalds we got on the train to Prague. We are in a 6 seat cabin with two German ladies for company. Again everyone is asleep. The plant is safely on the ...

Thurs. July 2 Day 28 hot 30C At 5am we sailed from Dresden arriving as we had breakfast at 8am. Our tour of Meissen started at the porcelain display centre for a demonstration of how this famously crafted porcelain is made from china clay and potter's earth. This day left me in awe ...

The bad about the day: an Umleitung in the beginning of Riesa that detoured in and over the main traffic bridge and the Hafen rather than the field path and footbridge; the radweg was now re-routed along the Riesa hauptstrasse (high street) rather than dropping back to the river after a small obstruction. This took us 1.5km along a busy shopping street to eventually bring us back to the river path having gained a net distance of 300m! The planned hotel in Meissen was up a very steep hill ...

... was plentiful in the quarries in the surrounding area. When you are walking up inside the dome, you don't realise you have such a weight of sandstone hanging over your head! The brochure explaining the history of the church has a panorama map of the city on one side, so it makes it easy to identify landmarks across Dresden when you are looking down on the city. We hired bikes on our second day, riding along the river marvelling at the height ...
