... through this we continued along the Rettenbachtal Valley, still with the towering cliffs on either side, but not as narrow, and gradually got wider and lower as we walked steadily, but gently downhill. Plenty of side tributaries to the main river that would be quite something to see crash down the slopes with the spring melt. Not sure that the track would be passable then. Passed the big penstocks that fed the power station. Once we had crossed the main Gosaubach ...

Arrived at Bad Ischl and found the place where we had our briefing for the walk and collected all the necessary vouchers. They even gave us a free schnapps. Found our way to the hotel (at the other end of town) and went for a walk around the town. First had lunch at a bakery, had no idea what we had, all local ...

... the bus took us through all the little villages in the Salzkammergut district. We also made frequent stops to pick up everyone from the elderly to a childrens' soccer team. Cheryl and I figured Austrians use public transit for schoolchildren because the teacher accompanied the team on the bus and then kids got off throughout the drive at various little villages. In fact, the teacher even got off the bus before the last of the children got off the bus.
