We flew from Bali to Singapore at 12:30am so we didn't arrive until 3:30. Our bus to Melaka wasn't leaving for another 5hrs and we were absolutely EXHAUSTED, so we walked around the airport looking for a place to sleep. The people who built Singapore airport are clearly sadistic, and instead of putting comfy couches and carpeting in the area outside the security gate, what they've put is a 'viewing mall', a cold tile-floored place with windows that look *into* the carpeted, comfy couch filled...

... was completely replaced by hordes of people and traffic chaos, far more asian.
The cahos of what was going on around us completely took us off guard we had thought about seeing our last few days out here but soon took the option to find somewhere a bit calmer, Singapore was doable but seemed a bit to much of a rush and another 5-6hrs traveling on what could already be a long days traveling, so without really having to much time to think ...
... to Ice Kopi); we went on a Crunch search to calm down his cravings and found one after several shops and one 7-11. On the crunch search we found a water machine just around the corner! Yes! Cheap water! It really can reduce your daily costs. Unfortunately the water tasted a little like chlorine, which eventually put me off drinking it.
Sunny's Inn showed a free film every night at roughly 10pm and that night's showing was 'Wanted'. It was by far one of the worst ...
Melaka is a short 2 hour bus ride from Kuala Lumpure. A Unesco site for the architecture, I guess. The Portugese and Dutch had a big hand in its founding so the buildings that still stand from a few hundred years ago give it that Colonial feel. It is now mostly Chinese and Indians now. Th problem with that is that it is hard to get Malaysian food there. Justly Chinese and Indian. I ended up with Indonesian Satay that was REALLY good!. Both Chicken and Beef had ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia donmiller... boat for warm showers all round. In the evening it was Captain's dinner. Guess what? We were on the Captain's table. So meet Captain Serge, the Big S at 7:00 for cocktails followed by a lovely meal where he told us all about himself and the ship - great fun. After that it was the talent show. First act, you've guessed, Captain Sergey singing three songs accompanying himself on the guitar - what a (Ser)guy! Then all the crew got ...
Malacca City, Melaka State, Malaysia pebbles1I'd like to open with a public service announcement: If you ever find yourself in Melaka, DO NOT stay at Shira's Guest House. Ugh, I have such a litany of complaints I don't even know where to start. I guess I'll start with the bathroom: There was only one...for 10 guests. Of the 10 guests I held several distinctions: I was the only Westerner, the only female, and the only paying guest. The other "guests" were all friends, family, or business partners of ...
Melaka, Malaysia beckysan... day in Melaka, after a long and fruitless search for a cafe, or indeed any place that offered breakfast (apart from the few shops offering curry or nasi lemak), we decided to visit the historic Malay village (or Kampung) up the river. A boardwalk has been constructed along one river bank and we followed this past the backs of old run down historic buildings, through a narrow strip of mangrove where large monitor lizards were lying in the sun and poorer Malays lived in ...
Melaka, Melaka State, Malaysia ziniandlulu...
Melaka, Malaysia pvdyck... hearing rumors that they've been superceded by a new building somewhere. KL is more of a city, and a bit more intimidating. Tonight we are having dinner some others in our group and then going to the KL towers (second highest in the world, although tourists are allowed to go up higher in these buildings than in the Petronas towers) and then on to another night market. The shopping here is unbelievable. I can't stop. Everything is very inexpensive. We've ...
Melaka, Malaysia riegling... and music systems blaring out, rather than looking at the buildings themselves. We continued north crossing the river into Chinatown to see some of the Baba-Nonya mansions, once elegant townhouses which were the homes of the original Chinese pioneers who married Malay women. These have unfortunately mostly fallen into disrepair apart from one good example housing the Baba-Nonya Heritage Museum, which was covered in ornate tiles and elaborate carvings. We ...
