    ... so difficult you are not tempted to even try (apart from things like ni hao (hello) or xie xie (thanks). Road signs, metros, most stations, airports and menus all write everything in both Chinese and English. We tried a little electronic translator we had a couple of times and the Chinese all have translators on their phones but this was never satisfactory and probably led to more misunderstandings.     ... beach is much finer, it would be hopeless for cricket. At a guess the hotel has about 500 rooms, at breakfast there were twenty tables taken so I think we can safely say this is the low season. We took a walk along the beach yesterday morning to a marina, still in construction stages, a little distance away where there are about 50 shops all but two of which were temporarily closed or being refurbished.     ... with money so booked a very expensive hotel, part of the Raffles chain, on the beach. I think I fell for the old sales gimmick of saying how much off the price was, not the price you actually pay. Anyhow we are here now and will try and make the most of our sumptuous surroundings, champagne anyone?     ... up there you can see that someone clearly didnt like the way nature build it in the first place and had a very different opinion on how its supposed to look like. You 'll find the artifical lake, shops, restaurants etc. the usual hussle & bussle underlayed with chinese music in the background. The view down to Yalong Hai is really nice and pays off the annoying cacophony around.
