... are more foreigners here, but I still attract quite a bit of attention. On these narrow tracks packed with tourists I go ahead of Sisi to make room for her to pass. When I appear with my height I feel all eyes on me. "There comes a respectable foreigner!" (Lao Wei) "Look how tall!" When I start to move forward, apologizing and thanking people in Chinese, I get all kinds of surprised smiling faces. People ask me how I learned Chinese, and where I am from. For ...

... soup, while the hotel lady makes a reservation for us to spend tomorrow night in a tent on the mountain top. It is definitely cooler here than in Guangzhou, but pleasant enough to walk in a t-shirt, and the restaurant doors are open. On the mountain top it will be windy and about 10 degrees, so we have to bring extra clothes. The lady recommends breakfast at six, so I write this in a hurry, because I need to sleep. ...

For hard seats we were very impressed by the comfort we enjoyed on the train and all had reasonable if short and broken sleeps. We got off and smoothly transferred to a bus just across the road from the train station which took us to Tangkou, the entry point to the mountain. ... the back of one of the bills. So of course we HAD to see it. The very long steep climb up to this tree was beautiful, MUCH more beautiful than the tree. Which was just a tree. Absolutely and COMPLETELY the same as all the other trees around it. Like not different at all at all, except for the fact that it was surrounded by ropes and chains so people can't get to it. It was a fun picture spot though. Ali had been freaking out most of the way up the mountain ...

... hope they knew what they were doing when they built these.

We get through the Grand Canyon and end up at a meeting point of trails. There is another loop the guide says we can do and he will wait for us. I opt out but Aaron wants to go so I wait with the guide. Just as I start to think he should have been back by now, Aaron appears, dripping in sweat. It was a tough climb and I'm glad I sat that one out. He says the views were spectacular though.
