There were also some nice patches of blooming pitcher plants in this area. We paddled around this area, exploring for a bit, then headed over to the main part of the lake. From there we went to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge (http://www.fws.gov/merrittisland/). We viewed a nature video on the variety of turtle in the area, etc. The attendant told us they were releasing endangered turtles back into the ocean and said we could participate. What we experienced was so exciting.
