Something else that catches my eye at the Uffizi is a two sided display of a painting of a dwarf. Apparently, dwarfs had a bad rap during the Renaissance and were viewed as freaks, but one became the favorite court dwarf of Cosimo I de Medici. Bronzini, a court painter, tried to show that painting was superior to sculpture in ...

We should have stayed longer on the other side as we were really enjoying the lack of people and building congestion. The number of tourists hit us as soon as we were back on our side and we'd only been away 3 hours. We were later told that Florence has 24 million tourists and at this time of year it's resident population of less than 300,000 swells to ...

... several museums), since we had no desire to be inside on such a lovely afternoon. Instead, we wandered back down to the southern shore of the Arno and up the long, steep stariway that climbs to the Piazzale Michelangelo. Perched atop a hill on the southeastern edge of the city, this grand piazza provides breathtaking views of Florence. After a brief rest (and several photos), we climbed back down the hill and cross the Arno to watch the sunset.
