        Day 14 – Lucca and the San Raniere Festival

        The festival of lights starts at sunset. We are into the summer season here and sunset is around 9:30pm. It makes for wonderfully long days. It also means that we have plenty of time to visit the lovely walled medieval town of Lucca, which is just 30 minutes by local train.

        ... cycle around, even more than once on the walls if we want exercise, all with minimal effort.

        Popped across the road to our local bar for an aperitif. We'd observed the locals in and out, a popular custom. In fact, the locals go in and out all day, starting with their morning expresso and stopping on the way home for an aperitif and antipasti. For us, one beer, one red wine, 2 prosecco and antipasti, all for €8.
