Luxury at a price

Well we had 4 nights in the luxury that we were imaging that Tahiti and Moorea would be. Hummmm think again. The cost of the accommodation should have given a good indication as to things to come....If you want to go somewhere with high expense (not value for money) and rudeness then this is the place for you. Perhaps I'm being slighty unfair following such amazing hospitality in Easter Island but Moorea surpassed itself for lack of customer service. As upon arriving at our hotel - we wer sho...

It was a delight to watch the universal language of laughter and smiles in action, they all had a great time.

After baking in the sun all day it was a treat to get back on the ship and feel chilled in the AC. ... I saw Mel Gibson was involved at some point. The missionaries arrived - both proddie and key-athlick. They all cleaned up the place and in particular the durty female customs. Then the missionaries had a struggle for power over the islands and the french won out and so the islands have been under French rule ever since. Somewhat uncontroversially until the 70s when France decided to conduct all manner of nuclear testing in the waters off certain of the ...

Mo'orea 20th - 23rd April 2009

... Finally it was the moral eels turn to be fed. After spending an hour in the water with the rays, sharks and eel, not to mention all the beautiful fish, we then boarded the boat and continued around to a little island just off Mo'orea where we stopped for 2.5hrs for lunch, snorkeling, sunbathing and generally relax. We were shown how to make coconut milk, how to marinade fresh fish and then eat it raw, how to peal and open a coconut and finally how to grate out the ...

Moorea!

We spent our first day in French Polynesia on the island of Tahiti (the largest) and it was raining the whole day. We checked out the not so impressive capital of Tahiti, Papeete, ate at a local café and visited some markets. Most people stay just a night stopover in Tahiti before departing to one of the other islands and we did the same. The next day we set sail on the inter-island ferry service to Moorea, which lays ...

French Polynesia: They Don't Have Tahiti Treat!!!

... we met up with an American guy in the airport that spoke French perfectly so we hooked up with him to barter down an outrageous taxi price ($100!!) to a nearby hostel where we found ourselves with the last two dorm beds at the cheapest place in town. What is cheap in Tahiti for dorm beds? About $50 each per night. Seriously. Tahiti has a lot of things going for it, but it is remarkably expensive. That being said, their money was some of the most ...

Kicking back in the Bungalow

... then drove back and then up some dirt tracks to the Belvedere lookout to have lunch and take some photos from the best point on the island. On arriving at the viewpoint we were greeted by a few chickens and roosters which we had fun feeding at the top. They would eat anything, the dodgy prawn crackers I had bought, some ham, and in the end we were even feeding them butter. We got the car back just as a thunderstorm was coming in so spent the remainder of the afternoon in the ...

Paradise in the South Pacific

... 4 short flights and one ferry crossing to her first island Moorea it cost a whopping 550 pounds! During the evening we hanged around the pension and played cards to pass the time away in the torrential downpours that were constant throught the evening and night. At the pension it was a natural place with the noise of rainfall, dogs, bugs and farm animals. Even hen's and chicken having their say day and night. I don't think they knew when sunrise happens. I woke ...

Moorea, the magnificent island

We have been on Moorea, the sister island of Tahiti, which is only 15 miles from Papeete, Tahiti. Moorea is spectacular and by dinner table vote, our favorite. It is an uncrowded tropical island of dramatically jagged mountains, lush forests, turquoise lagoons, coconut fields and glistening white sand beaches. It's no wonder that the Bali Hai parts of the movie "South Pacific" were filmed ...
