Well my last Greek Island has arrived and I'm sad to see this part of my journey end. It was what I was most looking forward to and the longest time in one country and now it is almost done. Don't fret though; I will be back soon! August 2, 2008: Yet another Ferry ride, another long wait at the terminal for a late ferry. Greek time has been quite interesting getting used to. We are always in such a rush to get places and do things, it's hard to relax and not stress about being late for a ferr...
Ios, Greece dfurlermood: reminiscent I am back in the dirty, greesy, hot streets of Athens, and i cannot wait to leave. Got in last night on the ferry and luckily today is my only full day here, its 3pm so its now less than 24 hours till i escape! Well my 2 days in Ios were amazing, our accomodation was great (and cheap), had a perfect location and the best beach so far. Ios is famed for its wild partying, and so there is a very young crowd compared to all of the other islands, as there is not much to do there ...
Ios, Cyclades, Greece lovin_applesIos was pretty much the same as Mykonos, but less craziness and younger people. We stayed at Far Our Resort which apparently is really crazy in July and August, but it was pretty low key for our stay. The mediterranean water is too cold to swim so Lance spent the days on the beach or relaxing in our bungalo with me. Our bungalo was bigger with a fan! I was still deathly ill. OK, not deathly... but it felt like it.

Naxos, Cyclades, Greece malena.drelaWell, a very enjoyable last night in Santorini. had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the sunset strip. Pity it wasn't the clearest of nights but still spectacular.
Dinner consisted of grilled pork with pureed red pepper and potatoes with cheese and Souvlaki Lamb with baked potato.
A 5.00 am start got us on to the flight to Athens then Rome.
After a sleep in we wandered into town to choose a suitable location for our anniversary dinner tonight (21 years!).
As usual we just had to take more photos ~ don't worry, after a few more tonight this will be all of Santorini.
Next, Italy where the forecast is 0 to 14 degrees. BRR BRR
The weather has improved remarkably, the wind dropping from the 40 knot+ from yesterday as we set off on the sailing vessel "Captain Yannis". We departed Amoudi Wharf and motored to Nea Kameni, the volcano island, where we saw the evidence of eruptions dating back to 1630 BC.
That first eruption was 70 times larger than Krakatoa in Indonesia and produced a tsunami 250m high!
The most recent eruption was in 1950 and even today we could see hot steam venting from the ...
... a magic show, saw a comedian, and sang along with an Elton John impersonator. We skipped a few of the singing and dancing shows as Steve wasn't sure he could stomach it. We had really nice weather- it only rained on the last day when we were at sea. We ate a lot of meat to get some protein and avoided bread and pasta since we will be eating a lot of both during the rest of the trip. We were sad to get off the ship but are excited about the next 6 weeks of backpacking.
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece steveandwhitney... up for the ladies?"....no, in fact I wanted to say "you do in fact look
gay" but I just said "I hear ya"
Then, when phil drove me back on his atv he rented (not drinking I

... we met for coffee that evening, Irene brought three friends along. One of the friends lived in Ios and two were visiting from another island for a few days. After coffee/tea, we went with them to a Greek restaurant for dinner (at the very late hour of 9:30PM) where we sampled octopus, a vegetable similar to cooked spinach- I was not a fan-, Greek salad -yummy-, swordfish, and some other things I don't know the English words for. Dinner was a long ...
