    ... mother and brother in pretty well done comforts. We grilled out on the lake and spent the sunset on top of a beautiful formation overlooking the entire lake. Thank you guys so much as well.     ... to kids yesterday. What a coincidence. Later we stopped by a mini-mart and the owner recognized us from the news coverage yesterday. He was really excited about what I am doing and insisted that I came inside so he could buy me something of my choice. I took a picture with him and his family. The enthusiasm of these people really helped me get through a tough day. My ride ended in Meyers, California after riding 48 miles.

    ... this morning to find that our food whole was luckily still in tact, and as far as we could see there was no new bear poop.
    We decided that today we were going for our goal. We were gonna summit. We didn't really realize just how much this was asking of ourselves. The hike would be 17 miles going up a total of 4,500 ft but also with at least a thousand foot decline that we would have to make up.     We awoke today to less smoke in the air at Ashland, but still enough to make us want to hit the road. Within an hour we were pretty much out of it. I chose to stay on I-5 down to Sacramento and then turn east on 50 to drive up to South Lake Tahoe. It's a route I had never driven before.
