Fanabe Costa Sur Costa De Adeje

I first visited Tenerife in 1970 with my parents, it was our second holiday abroad. I have been returning ever since. First with my young children, and now just my wife and I. Although the children, now adults in there 20s still ask, 'when can we come'.

A couple of years ago, we bought a second home just outside Puerto de la Cruz, with a view of spending the winter months here in our retirement. In the meantime we come out two or three times a year 'on holiday'.

... something in the crew mess (dining room). When we came back, after 15 mins he recalled he forgot to get sth from there. Forks. "What do we need the forks for? We`ve just eaten??". "We`re gonna eat some noodles with the guys in the lab. They`re working so hard, printing all night long..." Yeah, it as formal night, and out of 3 our printers just one was working, second month in a row. It meant that if you`re printing after formal night, you`d be sitting ...

... that's on the boardwalk. It was very quiet along the boardwalk - not sure why...maybe the weather...but it still was comfortable - around 15 C. Andy was still feeling unwell so I brought him back a salad from the restaurant and a nasal spray from the pharmacy. You can't get many over the counter drugs commonly found in North America without seeing a doctor first. ... Sunday. Andy has picked up a bit of a cough/cold ( he thinks from a woman who coughed on him at the Tenerife SUR airport) so we walked down the boardwalk to locate a pharmacy and buy him some drugs. Plus his 1 ear is plugged from the attitude shift we experienced today. He can only hear out of 1 ear. Because of this, we didn't go out for dinner and I picked up some ear drops for him and Burger King (the horrors!). I'm sure after a nite's sleep ...

... relaxing. For lunch, we went to the 'Penny Farthing' restaurant. Not very Spanish but very British. The hamburgers ($4E) were very good as well as the pint of beer ($1.5E). All of the other patrons were watching some football (ie. soccer) game on the telly. For the afternoon, Andy and I just read while lounging on the balcony at the condo. John and Dale walked up the cliff and had a wonderful view of the coast. For ...

... the balcony watching the evening lights come on also helped make for a great dinner. We decided to try a couple of bars we had seen on the internet but when we arrived they weren't open. The 1 bar only opens at 10pm, we were told by an arriving employee and the other after midnite! Well, that's much too late for old ***** like us so we went back home and had a nightcap there.

... around in shorts and a t-shirt. We had lunch on the boardwalk at Chuoky's - half chicken and fries for $4.50E. For dinner, Andy (mostly) and I (helped) made dinner - cous cous with vegetable and chicken on a bed of rocket lettuce. It as very good. After dinner, it was a time for a couple games of Kaiser - Dale and I against John and Andy. We usually lose but I have to note (since this is my journal) that we won the 2nd game 52 to 10 - a crushing win for a change.

Sunday 11/01/09 The day's finally arrived; we left home by coach at 10:15 for the uneventful 3 ˝ coach trip to Southampton docks. Once at the berth there was as expected the snaking queue of hundreds of people all with the same thought on their minds; lets get this over with quickly, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, the process from joining the queue to opening the cabin door was just under 30 minutes, not bad at all.
