We were to spend night five at campsite 50, and then hike in the morning to Smokemont where our outfitter, A Walk in the Woods, would meet us, give Julie and me our resupply box, drive us to Newfound Gap, and take Carol and Jen back to their car so they could start their journey home.

Night from hell
We paid 80.00 to sleep for five hours,to start off with we had to park 1/3 mile from motel.then the fire alarms kept going off.We had fire trucks,firemen and police all over the place but no one could tell us what was happening,finally this stopped about 1:30 in the morning.We finally get to bed only to be awaken by kids throwing firecrackers at the doors of the rooms.No employee from the motel tried to stop it so my husband went out and yelled for them to stop.We finally got back to bed around 3a.m. So this is why I say this was our night from hell.I will never stay again.
My family and sisters family stayed at the Family Inn north in the city of Pigeon Forge.Between the two of us we spent about 150.00 on 3 rooms.I will never stay again it was the worst motel i have ever stayed at.To start the Manager and employees at the front desk were very unprofessional.They knew very little about the rooms as far as bed sizes,connecting rooms etc.We made it to our room and it was scary.First I noticed the ceiling tiles above the sink and bathroom were rotted and black from water leaking the toilet was very loose in both rooms,shower head very loose and large gaps around it about a 1 inch gap under the door which allowed the bugs to enter as they wish.We pulled the comforter back and found 1 sheet.missing light bulbs.towel stuffed at top of door to keep people from looking in I guess.I am pissed by now I went to the office to complain and get a sheet and light bulbs I was told I cant do much about it tonight the maint man has gone home and I dont have anything to give you nor can i give you a refund.He finally found some sheets in the closet at the office I took one upstairs and it was full of ants got a second and it was full of ants.Finally I brought my own in from the car.The only thing that was nice was the air conditioning it worked great I had to keep it on the coldest setting to hopefully keep the bugs out.Very dissappointed poor managment and help.At least my two rooms will need to be CONDEMED.
I was very disappointed with this hotel. The room was not clean--empty water bottles were left over from the previous guests, paint was chipping off the toilet seat, and there were "remnants" in the sheets from past guests. There was a hole in the wall where the hair dryer had fallen off. Also, there was very limited parking.
My friend and I stayed at the Gatlinburg Family Inn, the room was nice and spacious, that is the only positive thing I can say about it. We stayed from April 21 thru April 24. The room was never vacuumed, the bathroom was never cleaned. Housekeeping only brought fresh towels, emptied trash, and made the bed's. The shower head leaked, the bath sink leaked. The micowave was absolutely disgusting. Food from a previous visitor was left in the refrigerator. The refrigerator did not cool food properly. The table top was filthy and we had to clean it. The bathroom floor looked like it hadn't been swept or mopped in quite some time. The entire property looked like it needed a good cleaning. The hotel workers were in the process of cleaning the pool, which had scum floating on the top and even if they did get it cleaned up I wouldn't swim in it after seeing the condition it was allowed to deteriorate too. We will never stay at this hotel again and do not plan on staying at any Family Inn in the future because of this experience. Just because a hotel gets old doesn't mean it can't be a great place to stay, all this place need's is some organization and cleaning. It's also evident that it's also in dire need of adequate staffing and a hotel manager that know's how to run the place.
Glad only one night
Due to a mix-up had to find a room to stay one night. Thought hotel looked pretty good from outside and room rate advertisement caught our eye. Advertisement was for a room with twin size bed per person. Room with queen-sized bed quite a bit more expensive plus not in parkway building, but building in back. Really old and not very clean. Had a kitchenette, but no utensils and nothing worked. NEVER again!
Not worth the cost.
Overpriced compared to reality. The inroom jacuzzi was not clean. The coffee pot did not work. No iron was available. Basic cable only.
We stay here every year for the July Fourth Parade. This past july 4th, we were terribly disappointed with the accomodations. The staff was extremely rude, gave us a single room when we were supposed to have a suite, and tried to tell us that two suites connecting to each other were not available, even though they had assured me on the phone that it would be no problem. The two suites we finally got were in terrible shape. They need renovation and cleaning. This hotel has seriously deteriorated in the last year. It is no longer a good value. Try another hotel.
This letter was sent Certified Mail to the President of Family Inns of 'America on 8/2/03. We have had no response and it has been over 3 weeks. We included pictures of all the items listed belowAugust 2, 2003President, KMS Enterprise Family Inns of America PO Box 10 Pigeon Forge TN 37868-0010 Dear Sir,My family and I spent the weekend of 7/27/03 at the Family Inn of America in Gatlinburg, TN. We met with life-long friends that we had not seen in several years for brief reunion. We searched the Internet for convenient hotels in Gatlinburg and were impressed with yours for 3 reasons: 1. Since we were going to entertain friends, my wife and I decided to get a suite. 2. Our friends had a small dog traveling with them and your facility accommodated pets. 3. Our friend is a Lt. Colonel in the Air Force and your facility granted discounts to the military.After making the reservations we were looking forward to a fun weekend. We did indeed have a great time, but no thanks to your accommodations. Your facility in Gatlinburg is in dire need of a good handy man! Enclosed I have included pictures of suite #701 that I paid over $380 (a copy of my receipt is enclosed) to stay in for two nights. It was a down right embarrassment to my wife and I to have to entertain close friends in such an environment.Let me point out some of the details in the room: 1. An iron requested from housekeeping with wires, etc. exposed. (What a liability to your company! 2. A leak in the ceiling that has been there for a while as it has bubbled the paint and leaked on and stained the rock fireplace. 3. Numerous cracks in the hot tub making if very un-inviting to use. (We chose not to) 4. The microwave with half the door missing. Again, we did not use it for fear of something being wrong internally with the machine. 5. Dirty, moldy refrigerator. 6. Underneath of the range exposed. 7. Floor electrical outlet cover taped to the carpet. Every time something was unplugged, the cover came up exposing live electrical wires. Again the liability to your company! 8. Light bulbs missing from the table lamps, we requested some from the front desk but were told they did not have any. 9. The balcony had not been swept in a long time cigarette butts etc.Sir, your Internet site description of your suites is misleading. To demand the public pay you almost $200 / night to stay there is robbery. If it were not for us meeting such close friends, I would have complained in person to anyone that would have listened. I still might contact the Gatlinburg Chamber as well as Pigeon Forge.After taking my $384.18 the very least you can do is offer me a response to why the facility is in such deplorable condition. This was my (and my friends) first and last stay in any Family Inn of America.Sincerely,
A non-smoking room was specifacally requested because of health problems. We were put in a smoking room. When we complained the "only other non-smoking room available" was a jacuzzi suite for $199.00 She would discount it to $179.00, but...when a customer came in inquiring about rooms while we were waiting for our mess to be straightened out she told them $179.00 for a jacuzzi suite, the next person inquiring quoted $199.00 )neither customer took the room) It was 4th of July weekend and because of my husbands medical problems we didn't feel like we had a choice and ended up paying $164.26 for this room. It was not worth this money. The toiled seat didn't even fit the toilet!
After making a reservation through the NC Welcome Station, we were told to come on down to Rowland. Arriving in Rowland after dark, we were checked in to a 2nd floor non-smoking double. The desk clerk said (after processing my credit card) that there were no first floor rooms because of the "renovations." This was the first mention of any construction going on, but we understood the reasons for it as soon as we walked into the room. The wall covering was coming off of the bathroom walls. The toilet was running water and continued to do so all night. The bathroom door had been ripped off and then put back together after a fashion. Thewrre were cobwebs on the door frame. One of the two reading lights was broken off, so we only had one 60 watt bulb for reading. The television refused to work with either the remote or the set controls. And, to add insult to injury, the clerk failed to make the wake up call I requested and did not give me a detailed bill. Turns out there was a key deposit which I never would have been told about had I not asked why the billed amount was so much higher than the coupon I provided. They should have said something about the renovations when the reservation was phoned in so I could have decided whether to seek other accommodations.. I will never stay at Family Inns again.
