      5 Crazy Girls stay at Family Garden Inn !!!!

      from

      Hey Y'all !!

      We wanted to write to let everyone know what a GREAT time we had at the Garden ! Free beer every night at the Cabana, (and we drank alot of it) $1 breakfast tacos in the mornings. and alittle store in the front. Not to mention the cute guys we met. The rooms were great, with french doors leading out to what was the most fantastic rain forest with hidden hot tubs and waterfalls I ever seen in Texas !! We can't say enough good things about this place. And the price was fantastic. Screw La Posada, this place is better !!! Lots of kids in the pool, yet enough room for those of us adults who left em at the ranch. We'll be back for sure !!!

      Great Time

      from

      We were in Texas visiting family, so we stayed at the Family Gardens for a week. I tried to get us into a hotel near the border, but my wife suggested that we stay with our reservations at the Family Garden. I am glad that we did. Not only was the rates great, but we found the hotel to be quite charming. The rooms were clean and we had maid service every day like clockwork. Even when we asked for extra towels, we always received them in a timely manner. We will stay at the Family Garden again on our next vist to Laredo. We told our Aunt about the hotel, and she is staying there when she goes to Laredo also.

      This Place is a D U M P !

      from

      Hi There Folks. A word about the Family Garden Inn. We just returned, having chosen it after seeing the previous write-ups. Our first room was too scary to even sleep in - a "suite" in the rear building...filthy, smelly, moldy and without a single redeeming quality. Real bad attempts at remodeling including french doors at the end of the room nailed shut because they opened out into nothing (second story). This dump is a privately owned family's bad attempt at keeping up what used to be a real nice place. Prediction: total remodel/fumigation or buyout from a real chain with real standards of cleanliness or out of business within 24 months. The bathroom had black mildew everywhere and the floor had numerous stains of who knows what.

      Room 288...if you get it, prepare to be horrified. We asked for another room, ended up in the courtyard in front of the pool/playground. Sorry to those of you with high hopes, but it was also terrible. We did stay there, but I swore when I left I would never stay in such a fleabag gross place again. With tax, the room was $69. I would, if I wasn't with my family, and had nowhere else to stay, maybe say it was worth at the most $19, and I AM serious. After just writing that, I have to retract it and say I would rather sleep in my car. We drove by the Fairfield Innn and the La Quinta and wished we had done either - but we got duped by the other write-ups and thought this place would be family friendly. It may have been for a family of hogs or rats, who would appreciate the filth and squalor. The staff was nice, but they are nice folks working at a dirty pigpen. The blankets were smelly, the room smelly, the bathroom filthy...2 thin old towels...the other occupants were unsuspecting tour groups and others like us with nowhere else to go. When we left the last thing I did was take a photo of the 3inch cockroach my 6 year old had squashed on the dirty tile floor. We'll keep that pic to remember the grossest room we ever stayed in. Do yourself a favor and SKIP this one.

      Loved it!

      everyone was sooo friendly. the drivers are VERY accomodating. they drive u to the border and pick you up. not to mention the free happy hour with hot dogs and popcorn and free beer and $1.50 margaritas.

      would stay again most definately!!! The comment about the rats are untrue. VERY Excellent staff, couldn't ask for anything more.

      Best motel

      from

      it has one of the best services you can find..the location was great and the breakfast and happy hour was wonderful...keep up the good job.planning to visit Laredo again in a few days and will stay there again when we get there..

      Plenty of Bang for Your Family's Buck

      from

      Not the Ritz or the Four Seasons or the Hilton. What you do get is a clean room with a great view. We ended up in the Garden Square with lovely French doors that open onto the tropical "jungle" with hot tubs. Every night before turning in, we'd take a hot soak--great after crossing back and forth from Nuevo Laredo and a day of shopping. You can't beat the deal for a family. We brought munchies, stocked our little fridge in the room and used the microwave. The cabana served great free food at breakfast and evening happy hour. Plus the nice folks at the grill can prepare other menu items reasonably priced. Yummy breakfast tacos! Easy to get to off the highway; HEB nearby for that grocery run. We would recommend to any family on a budget looking for a place with atmoshere and character. Could use some light maintenance and spiffing up around the edges, but these things are easily overlooked. Friendly staff!

      Lots of Fun and Great Character!!!!

      from

      It was our first time we stayed here and it was an excellant choice. Hospitality was great as was social hour and breakfast. Neat place, clean and a lot of character. Have made many trips to Laredo but it was the first time we stayed here. We will continue to stay here from now on and will recommend it to others.

      WONDERFUL!!

      from

      We loved the motel. Everyone were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Garden Square with the tropical rain forest. It was beautiful! We were surprised they had a shuttle to take us to the border. That was an extra benefit. Would defident stay there again if we go back.

      Love It!

      from

      Have stayed ath the Family Garden Inn twice and am planning another trip. I love the free breakfast, and evening nachos, hotdogs, and beer! The rooms have convenient refridgerators, and lovely views of the courtyard! Would definitely recommend!

      Nice place.

      from

      We stayed in the cabins, very fun. They are individual log cabins facing a wooded walk. Also stayed in a regular motel room once. The staff is nice and it is enjoyable overall. Playground, swimming pool, outdoor spas in a rain forset type jungly place.

      ... note, over the same time frame the border patrol posted these numbers for the Laredo crossing;
      pot= 6000 lbs
      cocaine= 76 lbs
      heroin= 71 lbs
      meth= 19 lbs

      I guess that covers Holy Week activities along the border.
