... been two winter Olympics and one youth winter Olympics held here. Apparently you can ski all year round thanks to a glacier on one of the mountains. Next we headed into the Old Town streets. The Christmas markets had recently started so we browsed the stalls selling all sorts of produce, Christmas trinkets and most importantly for the locals, hot wines and punches... We are sure this is what gets them through the cold winters! ...

... past when a show was on. Guys were on unicycles doing really cool tricks, some even with fire. A small group of girls did an ice skating dance routine which was pretty good.

We were going to try and make it out to the Olympic skate ring while we were here so Dan could throw on some ice skates for the first time, but didn't quite work out for us, which is unfortunate, as that would have been heaps of fun.

There is not a hell of a lot to see here in Innsbruck, so ...

... all was this stupid bike mounted video camera which every time I use it (and the one before) it simply mists up and the footage is destroyed and so I came up with an idea. Each morning/evening I wipe down my helmet visor with anti mist spray and so thought I might as well give it a try on the video cam. Biggest problem here meant opening the lens of this rather small camera. Anyway with nothing to lose I gave it a try and simply kept an eye on it all day and sure enough ...

... best of places but it’s better than having to sleep out in a tent in the freezing cold. As we rather high up here and just under the Dolomites it appears to be getting rather cold outside so I wonder how much ice I will have to scrape off my poor bike in the morning.

Tomorrow I will hopefully make it to Cortina and onwards to the wonderful hotels on lake Misurina. I just pray that one of these hotels will be open and after that it’s time to start heading back to cold and wet ...

Many of them are original parlours that the museum purchased, took apart and then carefully reconstructed to give you the exact look and feel of the room. You can walk through about ten different parlours and even sit on the furniture. The only thing missing was a roaring fire, some hot food and cold beer being served.
