    As regards our Romanian holiday we have booked our accommodation, a real mixture of smart(ish) hotels, wayside B&Bs and self catering. We have the outline of a route-around 4000 kms in total taking us over the Transalpina and the Transfagarasan via a few castles all the way to the Danube Delta on the Black Sea and back via the Iron Gate Gorge,Belgrade and Zargreb.

  • People tend to take their time at restaurants and the staff are pretty hands off. You essentially have to flag them down if you want anything, especially the check. They will let you wait for a very long time because they're assuming you're in no rush.

First class is special with Austrian Rail, we had porters who just bundled our bags on to trolleys, lead us to the correct place to stand for first class, place our bags on the carriage above our seats.
