So, I'll update again when Im off and let you know how Im getting on.
Kendal, Cumbria, United Kingdom tizer... local stone and was heavily besieged with the rising brook. The trees opposite were already underwater.

Back at the hut, the key was nowhere to be found. We stood in the porch feeling damp and sorry for ourselves, whilst the rain continued to bucket down. I searched under every stone and in each possible hiding place. Clearly someone had been back and gone out again. We dripped pathetically and considered our options.

My car was there, but the ...
Little Langdale, England, United Kingdom rachelkwThe rain came down in sheets. There were gusts of wind that blew clouds of water across the motorway. The night was pitch black and spray from the road surface obscured the tail-lights of the cars infront. Many cars had their fog lights on to try to cut through the storm.

The rain beat continuously on the windscreen. I started to wonder how many thudding drops glass needs before it starts to ...
Little Langdale, England, United Kingdom rachelkw... albeit a spouse) and very happily printed out FOC (free of charge) tickets for us, on seeing our BR passes.

We boarded a small ferry called Tern and sat downstairs. It was just too chilly on deck. My car thermometer had been reading 6C on the way over. The ferry happily chugged its way across the lake, taking half an hour to get to Bowness-on-Windermere. We peered at the passing banks through ...
Ambleside, England, United Kingdom rachelkw... fad, they are much cheaper then buying jeans and I can was them
in my sink.

Things to look forward to next week- The response of the
utility guy to the resilient black and neon pink mold growing all over my
bathroom, and the response of my flat mates to the package from America! Also,
maybe going home with Lauren to ...
Lancaster, Lancashire, United Kingdom scharrak... a scramble than a walk, but we made it, puffing and panting to the top. The view is just as impressive, with the bones of the land laid out before us. Down in the valley, several hundred feet below us, we could see the remains of a WW2 aeroplane that had just clipped the ridge.

Two peaks done, it was time for the third and highest of the day. Thankfully, we retained much of the high ground in getting there. The ridge meandered up ...
Coniston, England, United Kingdom rachelkwThe Michelin Route Finder suggested the journey to the Lake District would be 3 hours and 40 minutes. I know from experience that they are generally underestimating the real time, so I banked on about four and a half to five hours of driving. I collected Donny from school and we set off straight away.

The M6 was dreadful. It was handbrake driving - on, off, on, off, on, off - we managed less than 90 ...
Coniston, England, United Kingdom rachelkw... we went south, past Derwent Water, on the hunt for more geocaches. We took in a few small caves, the much larger Boweder Stone (a massive rock pushed here by a glacier some time ago...), more fields, mountains, stunning views and lots of plans for retiring early and setting up home there. On the way back to Ambleside we played on another pass, in amongst steep walls of ...
Keswick, England, United Kingdom darrenstravels... having a very, very cold dip in the Tarn (lake) on the hillside, and searching for a few more Geocaches. Also played on a disused quarry, and if my young cousins are reading this - Don't play in a disused Quarry. They are dangerous, and only people with little to live for should go near them!

With the rest of the afternoon free, and the weather perfect, we went for a nice long drive, ending up on the east cost of the Irish Sea. Nothing ...
Coniston, England, United Kingdom darrenstravels... I wasnt too much of a hindrence), I got a lot of sympathy, a few well intentioned jibes, and a little round of applause when I pulled myself into the bus. The Journey back to Beijing through the heavy traffic was immensly long and I suddenly got a real feel for how huge the city was. We had dinner that night in a restaurant next to the hotel which proved a bit of a disaster in that the staff were just not prepared to know how to deal with us. There were communication problems ...
