Our day with the girls from the orphanage

This is a day that I will never forget. As mentioned earlier, Brad and Michelle came to Africa a week earlier than we did and they took the 25 girls from the orphanage out on four day trips. They live in Eastleigh District, one of the worst slums in Nairobi, where it isn't safe to leave their house. All 25 girls plus their House Mother, social …

Oh my, we are definitely suffering from jet lag. I woke up at 2:00 and put my earplugs in, figuring I'd sleep more soundly if I didn’t wake up to every strange sound I heard. Jim woke up at 3:00 and couldn’t get back to sleep, so he got up and shaved. The Muslims started chanting at 4:35 a.m. – it’s the last day of Ramadan, …

My mind is spinning with all the things I want to share with you! I feel like I’ve stepped into a National Geographic magazine, with the sounds, smells and sights exactly like those you’d see in a jaw-dropping full-colour spread. We are so fortunate to have this opportunity to travel to this foreign land to soak up the culture and …

From Nakuru, we reached Nairobi by road at about 6pm. We then had to spend about an hour in the heavy traffic of the city. After some difficulty in finding the hotel, we finally reached our hotel (Hotel Fairview) and checked in. Rebeccah’s family went to their relatives’ house and stayed for the night.

In the next morning, …

Today was a travel day but also a day for visits with some friends. The Prodigues and I were up around sunrise to be ready to leave their house before 07:00, the time when Mrs. Prodigue needs to leave for her work at a nearby school. I didn't feel 100% when I woke, but did feel quite a bit better. We had some coffee and toast and had the chance to …

    A nice hotel

We stayed at Fairview hotel for 3 nights and it was a good hotel, although a bit expensive. The rooms were neat. There were restaurants inside the hotel and you can get different kinds of food.

    Lovely compound

Our first compound living experience in East Africa. Clean room, though basic. Breakfast very nice, pool being serviced (and too cold anyway), business facility with internet. Don't expect to walk out the front and check out the neighbourhood; hotel is in the suburbs, not much else around, not much to see, and guards would make you think it's not that safe. Would not recommend walking anywhere in Nairobi alone (especially as a foreign woman). But everyone in the hotel was courteous and professional. Would recommend this hotel.

    Fantastic - highly recommended

    from

My husband & I have just returned from a month long trip in Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania. We stayed at the Fairview twice during our travels & absolutley loved it & would highly recommend it to anyone.

    Gutes Stopover Hotel

    from

    from

Meine Erfahrungen im Fairview waren also bestens.

    Will stay there every time

    from

I spent one night at the Fairview on the way to Kisumu. After a long flight and being in Kenya for the first time, staying at Fairview gave me a sense of security and a restful night. When I made a reservation with Fairview staff, I asked about transport from/to airport. They sent a taxi driver, who had a big nice sign with Fairview logo and my name, and was very friendly. Taxi ride was charged on my hotel bill. Hotel staff was very nice, and the hotel itself was beautiful - parquet floors, colonial furniture, nice wooden bridges that connected different areas of the hotel... in other words, it was very charming and quaint. Security was another feature of the hotel that made it a very nice overnight stay.

    Good stopover hotel

    from

We stopped over at the Fairview for one night before heading back to UK as it was very convenient for the airport. The room that we had was very quiet, spacious and comfortable. Service was good as always in Kenya and the choice of restaurants should provide whatever you want.

Used the poolside bar for casual drinks and fairly substantial snacks delivered without fuss but with plenty of friendliness. I would strongly recommend the hotel particularly for a stopover.

    OK

    from

Stayed at the Fairview for two weeks on and off on a home visit. The Hotel is modern and well maintained, the rates are reasonable. Front desk staff is friendly and efficient. The beds are comfortable, clean but very small in all the rooms I stayed (I was moved around a bit). The towels were clean but a bit worn out. There is a nice outdoor pool. The guest lounge at the lobby is comfortable and has a nice fireplace - comes in handy in June-July. There are three restaurants on site, I tried both the poolside (all day dining) and Mukhtan (sandwich shop), the menu in both reads well but the food is so so. Internet connection at the business center is ok but over priced. Security in and out is good.

    My mom's or Fairview

    from

I am a kenyan and frequently need to visit family. I love to unwind on arrival and before departure, I head for fairview. After trying a mixture of african and foreign dishes I am

ready for my mom's cooking. Travelling around the country I visit fairview for shower and beer and renew old friendships at the receiption and the most beutiful outside jama choma in the world. Their charges are real good value for their services and food and tuskers.

My only complaint is unless you book in advance they are likely to be full.

    Pretty Good Hotel

    from

As far as Africa hotels go, this is a pretty good choice. Excellent service, nice quiet location, and the price is reasonable too. Great food, and good Wi-Fi internet service.

    Not that pleased

    from

I am loathe to criticize anything in Kenya because it is a great country, full of people who need our tourist dollars, euros, etc. That said, I probably will not stay at the Fairview when I return.

    Great! You are the guest!

    from

Nice hotel with conserved old feeling near Nairobi centre. Good rooms with high standard. 3 very good restaurants in different styles. Big nice gardens. Super high security. First of all: Nice personal that really works hard to create a personal cosy feeling.

After my second visit I just long to come back!
