It shows both Dali's fears and his whimsy. The paintings peek into his mind, which a fear of the unknown afterlife haunts his dreams. A deeply religious man, Dali paintings uniquely represent the basic iconography of Catholicism. And they are both beautiful and troubling.

When supper was served, we encountered a bit of confusion when the flight attendant was delivering meals to students that she thought were vegetarians or lactose intolerant. ... a Trojan in the kitchen, but she politely refused every offer of help, saying, as Susan does "oh pooh", to any suggestion that I was being lazy. She was in her element, cooking up a storm for what would turn out to be more than 20 people later that evening.
