Fairmont Winnipeg

I thought it would probably be a good idea to start blogging now and get into a big of a habit with it.

So I have been in Winnipeg just over 24 hours now and so far so good, I'm not running out of here straight to the airport just yet! Everyone has been so lovely and have gone out of their way to help and and answer all our questions which has been really nice.

... didn't go up the CN tower as the weather really hasn't been good enough to spend $21 on it. I managed to get a good picture of it though during a 2 minute break in the cloud cover. All of Eastern Canada has had a pretty **** summer weather-wise. Lots of rain, fog, low cloud and humidity. I was lucky in some places, not so lucky elsewhere. By the way, the other strike involving city employees was settled on Monday night, so clearing up ...

... and easier.


I am so glad that I brought along my netbook as I have downloaded all episodes of Arrested Development and it kills time while I wait for my connection in Toronto. I probably look like the creepy person that everyone is hoping that they don't sit beside on the plane, as I am smiling from ear to ear watching it. ... And please don't say "where's Nickleback?"....they suck!!! It is Matt Mays, Jason Collett (ahhh Jason Collett!), Hayden, Hawksley Workman, the Weakerthans, Wintersleep, Ladyhawk, Arcade Fire all the way!! So to make a long story short, I think I am ready. The next few days will be relaxing, spending time with Hartley, and I am sure I will end up checking and rechecking my bags and its contents a few more times!

Wide open spaces and big sky greeted us as we crossed from Ontario into Manitoba. The change in landscape was quite dramatic. From hilly and somewhat winding roads to a flat and straight Trans-Canada Highway. The stop in Winnipeg was a pre-scheduled appointment to get the van in for service. ... strange... Going through Canadian customs at the border was very easy, just showing them our drivers' licenses and answering a few questions and we were waved through. We arrived in Winnipeg late afternoon, parked the RV downtown (somehow we always find a place to park it), walked around exploring, visited a coffee shop (of course), and a nice shopping area down ...

... are people and have a life and story to tell. Went bungee jumping in Whistler! What an experience! ... walked into the centre where a massive skateboard park had been made. We watched kids (of all ages) until Rob saw blood, which took a surprising long time actually, some of them were really good and some were clearly just starting out, I thought we were going to have to put our first aid skills to the test though when a young boy fell off a ramp about 4 foot high, he fair hit the deck with a bang, but he jumped up and we saw him limping off. ... with the cancellation insurance people so I didn't have to worry much about that for awhile. I couldn't move much after I got to the bottom of the steps so Michelle went into the business behind to ask about taxis. I guess they must have seen how pathetic I looked and so their son gave us a free ride back to the hotel. Again, Malaysians are SO nice! I made it up to our room and Michelle got me my pain killers so I could finally rest peacefully. She headed back down to book my flights ...
