Tuesday 3rd September – Ottawa to Montebello

The Chateau in Ottawa is a magnificent hotel which was opened in 1912. Opening celebrations were planned for April 1912 and the man responsible for the building booked his passage back from London on the Titanic and as you would know he never made it – the ceremony was …

We are staying one night at a marina associated with a famous resort called Le Chateau Montebello. It is on the Ottawa River half way between Ottawa and Montreal. It took us 4 hours in the pouring rain to get here but it was an easy cruise down the river. We have taken advantage of the fancy facilities here such as a giant indoor pool, spa, walking …

Yesterday saw us headed to Montebello and our hotel is known as the largest log cabin so am looking forward to seeing it. Sure hope my room is bigger than the postage stamp I was staying in here in Ottawa. Ottawa is a beautiful city split down the middle by a canal that runs for 202 miles. There are even rapids in the middle of the city.

Downtown Ottawa was a zoo of construction, RCMP cars and bikes, limo's for the important VIP'S and even a marching demonstration against CETA, ( protesting against Exon, Monsanto, etc). It wa also lunchtime, with lots of delicious smelling food trucks lining the street just to make it even more crowded. We managed to find parking and walked ...

... with their summer coats, and the bison were few and far between. The giant moose was out and about, as were the coyotes, but the icing on the cake came with the bears!

The park radio says that they have 9 at the park... Odd, we saw 15. There were so many cubs! They are so so cute! even the gigantic ones, look so cuddly! Especially when they are walking around grazing on grass. As if those big black things would hurt ...
