New beginnings for an old guy

... at a time, along with some waxing and gloss. I need to get a 6v battery charger and to convert the engine to unleaded gas, unless anyone knows where to get leaded gas from these days. The to do list in much larger than that....

And in the good old daddy tradition, I made sure to document the move every step of the way, so bear with me during the multiple pix of the process

A Winter Day in New York

... to Rockefeller Center where plenty of ice skating was going on. But it was so windy I ducked into the NBC Studios Shop and bought a ticket for the Studio Tour which I had taken once before. When that was over, I was given standby tickets for the taping of the Late Night with Conan O' Brian Show, which I would have loved to attended but I had to be back at the bus within ...

... eventually let in except that the size of the entrance compared to the number of people did not quite work out and there was all sorts of pushing and squeezing. We had to go through about 5 gates and everytime everyone would push through and then run to the next one to get ahead. We had no time for that so we just walked, but you have to push or you will get crushed. At one point Dan and I got separated at the gate and he got through but I was wedged right up ...

... that counter staff are either Hispanic or Black. And not so polite. Coming from Japan, it was a shock. When we sat down to eat at the window, I could see people walk past, stop, put their hand on their stomach and then turn around and come in for a bite to eat. These people definitely lack self control. There are lots of deli like places, so breakfast was something bready. So was lunch. Dinner we went to a jazz bar that was ...

Graduation, Time Square, St Patricks, Tea...

... had a full cheering section for her MD graduation. The president of the Med School gave a great speech reminding the graduates of their place in the world, their duties, and their duty to be ethical. I really liked it. Perhaps the highlight of the speeches was the student representative speaker who gave a fantastic speech, mostly about preparing (or not) the speech that he was currently giving. There was talk of procrastination, preparation, babies ...

Ringing in 2008 NYC Style!

... before hand. This was a pretty asinine setup, really. Instead of just showing our ID at the door or having printed tickets via internet, I had to go in early and stand in a large line for about two hours. Lori had to work, so I got the tickets and met up with her later. At least it wasn't too cold. Later on, I met Lori at the TGI ...

... don't even KNOW how many blocks to get to 520. Finally, I see the Chinese flag waving in the wind at the top of a building... and walk in. When I go in there are SOOO many people that all of the seats and filled and people are standing around the perimeters. There are also a few long lines for people who are picking up their stuff. A security guard is handing out numbers... so I wait on the back of the line, and this guy (who is not ...

Visiting the Professor

... like all my beatnik friends have been urging me since I turned 65. Arturo knows his way around the governmental agencies in Stamford since he fled there after the Flood and was forced to seek their assistance. Now he has a fine apartment fully provided by the G, a serviceable automobile, and every sort of regular federal, state and local payment to which he may be entitled. Me, I've avoided any sort of contact with ...

Foreign Soil

... Our car collected us from JFK, a pretty standard trip and we headed to Stamford Connecticut. We would be housed in temporary accomadation until we could get ontop of things and find a house. Problem! Our flat was not ready and we were placed temporary temporary accomadation! Now I shall not dwell on the other issues we faced as that would be a negative spin! The new place was great and we settled well.
