... hotel is pretty nice. We plan on getting breakfast on the road tomorrow since the hotel charges for breakfast, but our parking was included which is rare for a downtown hotel. The room is a really nice size. Once we get to a normal small hotel room, we will be really claustrophobic after these nice big rooms.
We are in to Wisconsin now...the city of Superior and Duluth, Minnesota where we got to see a HUGE, 768-foot ship come into the harbor.
You need to watch this movie to see how very long this ship is as it comes through the channel.
... we saw Common Loons with a baby and Trumpeter Swans (Travis and I got to add these to our Life Lists). The call of a Common Loon is by far my favorite bird call. Wee-ooo quee….. hoooo-lii!!! There was a seven mile driving tour that is nothing but wetlands and ponds on either side of the road. Our species list ended up not being very long but we only spent a brief amount of time at the refuge.
The main event was strolling the Lakewalk along the Duluth-Superior Harbor entrance. Always fun. The port still sees a steady flow of shipments (largely taconite now), with 1000-ft boats navigating the canal, heading under the Aerial Lift Bridge. We caught one boat heading out on the ...
Left Parker's Crossroads heading for as far north as I can get today. The ride up was basically good, although there is not a lot to see that is new or interesting between PCRV and Madison, WI where I would up for the night.
