Here in Fort Madison, Iowa (my hometown) packing snacks for the trip. Costco visit (thanks Julie & Nevaeh) yielded enough granola bars and salted nut rolls to grow very tired of them forever. ... Ag area and I'm sure lots of feed lots but haven't seen any yet. Drove 220 miles to get down south farther toward St. Louis (fly out on Sat.) Jim for job and me to ft. Lauderdale

Drove to a state campground next to the Mississippi-ugh pit toilets, no shower (we haven't showered in a couple of days) and overall yucky vibe. Found out about a city campground 12 miles north in Keithsburg, Illinois. Tired ...

... to Mt. Sterling, IL. I was really hoping we'd encounter a Starbucks or a Dunkin' Donuts in the very least, but it wasn't meant to be....an hour and fifteen minutes of cornfields later, we arrived in Mt. Sterling, population 1900, and settled into a McDonald's for their wi-fi. We're staying at the fairgrounds tonight and if they'll let us, we're going to stay there the whole weekend too.

... Bad stuff: the gear change lever bar that I tap up/down to change gears snapped off leaving me with only the connector shaft to change gears with. Good thin was that I took the bike to an autobody shop and the guy there drilled a hole in the shaft and put a bolt in so I could change gears. I have also arranged via e-mail with the BMW Dealer in St Louis to fix my bike of Friday.
