After a good nights sleep and a little bit of a lie in we went to get some breakfast. Cowboy dad and his two girls obviously had the same idea; they strode across the breakfast area all wearing jeans with heavy duty leather belts, straw cowboy hats and boots (complete with spurs!). Having lassoed a table they sat down to enjoy their waffles.

... and it looked like we were in for another rain storm, however the distant dark sky's and lightening strikes only sideswiped Tucumcari.
After hovering up some leftover cake and ice cream we made our back to the motel room for a dinner of Dorito's Jalapeņo chips and 'Our old fashioned Chicharron pork skins' from the circle K gas station all washed down with half a bottle of sweet conejito white wine in a Best Western plastic cup.
... to eat before making our way over to Mon's to wish her a happy birthday.
Mon, as always, was very pleased to see us and really looking forward to opening her presents; gran's present especially made her laugh. Like most of the gifts from back home gran had chosen to give her dollars, however she had left the dollars in the travel agent's complimentary paper sleeve. Mon, being bedridden and on oxygen 24-7, was amused to read "enjoy your holiday" on the outside ...
High on my bucket was (and I say was) Taos. Poor Tom drove about nine hours, some of them in a raging rain storm. Taos was a bust. We immediately headed for Santa Fe.
The ride, however to Taos was nothing short of spectacular. The landscapes were like paintings. We traveled through sage brush fields and majestic mountains. We miss so much of this beautiful country when we travel by plane.
