See through curtains, stinky room, stinky service
The room had that stale old hotel room smell that lingered, but you get used to it after a little while. We had a room that faced the pool/courtyard area, with a door to access it from the room, which was nice, but, the curtains there were only sheer drapes, nothing else. In the evening, with the lights on, you can see everything in the room from outside. Although there was little traffic in the courtyard, it was still a bit disturbing. In the morning, the maid knocks and walks in right away, not waiting for you to answer the door, without any concern that anyone inside may be sleeping on indisposed. I find that extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. The shower looked scummy at first glance, but it seems to be a horrific calke job instead. The front desk was completey unhelpful in directing me around town, and quite unfriendly about it. Construction on a building right out front made parking difficult. Stay here only if you have to.
Great for the weekend
I stayed at the Fairfield Inn SJ this past weekend with a special weekend rate of $69 a night. Check in went without a hitch, the room was large and clean, the bed comfortable, and there were no problems with the in room internet. I didn't use the phone, the business center or the fitness room. Breakfast was from 6 til 10 and was fresh and plenty with bacon, eggs, yogurt, waffles, french toast, fruit, bagels, coffee juice etc etc. There was an attendant present to keep it stocked.
Every employee I met from those behind the desk to the housekeeping staff was friendly, smiled, and helped when they could.
Avoid at All Cost...
Find a way to stay somewhere else. Although the rooms were clean, this Fairfield Inn is the worst Marriott property at which I've stayed. In my room, the phones worked sporadically, the internet connection did not work (I work daily with networking and this was not user error), the safe didn't work, and the bed was uncomfortable. The week that I was there, the gym equipment was not working in the exercise room and it appeared to have been that way for awhile. The people manning the front desk rarely smiled and had to defer decisions to a manager who never seemed to be there. The business center did have a working computer and a printer, but it was very obvious that the computer was used for downloading all manner of stuff and it was infested with spyware, adware, and viruses. So, you did not feel comfortable checking email using passwords, etc. I will certainly ensure that the travel people at my business know to never book another room at this Fairfield Inn.
OK for Short Buisness Trip, not for Extended Stay Though
Stayed here for a week in January and December of 2005. This place was clean. The problem is that it used to be a Howard Johnson, and converted to a Fairfield. It definitely looks like an old HoJo, with the updated Marriott trade looking rooms and fixtures.
It is convenient to the airport, and there is a shuttle train outside the front of the hotel that takes you downtown. You really do not need a car if you stay here, because of all the convenient public transport.
There is no restauraunt here, and the closest thing is a half mile walk to a McDonald's. You could walk across the street and eat at the Hyatt's restaurants though. The continental breakfast is minimal, and does not change from day to day.
All in all it is an ok place to stay for a short trip, but not on vacation, or for an extended period of time. There was no HBO, and no FoxNews channel. They did have CNN and MSNBC though...
Depends on luck
I stayed in this hotel for business in February for 3 days. I changed room twice on the first day. The first room assigned did not have internet access but the room was spacious, bright and clean. Then, the reception reassigned a much smaller room with cleaning issue. One of the sinks was full of dirt and the bath tub had mold on the caulking. Finally, the last room was a small room with bored outside view (I was on the ground floor facing the commercial building's 3 storey cocrete wall next door). That was the second worst experience regarding hotel stay for business trip, not even taking the high business rate I(my company) paid for into the account. The only reason kept me there was its location. The breakfast offered a large variety of choice. I would say that this hotel is good for quick weekend layover but not for busniess nor extened stay.
I stayed there in February over the weekend. First of all there didn't appear to be any staff with the exception of the desk clerk and the houskeeper that delivered my internet cable with his coffee in hand. I had to ask about the security because I was afraid to leave my car in the parking lot. They had cookies at check in which was nice but the staff didn't know anything about the area. Really rinky dink hotel, it was a Hanford Inn or something before and Marriott didn't renovate every part of the hotel. A few cleanliness issues like a dryer sheet on my floor by the bed, hairs on the floor of the bathroom. Maybe the housekeeper was cleaning my room while drinking his coffee.
Tops for business travellers
Unless you absolutely need to be downtown, this hotel is a great choice for the business traveller. Rates are lower than most other chain lodging establishments in the area, but the rooms are still clean, spacious, and comfortable. Friendly, competent staff and an above-average continental breakfast. An older property nicely refurbished and well-maintained. Attractive and spacious outdoor pool area is also a plus. Handy to San Jose Airport, restaurants, and numerious Silicon Valley companies.
Great All Around
The Fairfield Inn is an older property, but very well maintained. Their weekend rate was less then $50.00 with a well stocked continental breakfast with fruit and coffee available all day. Checking in at 10 AM was no problem. The room was decent size and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. I did notice slight mildew around the tub edges. But all the good points outway the negative one. The staff is very friendly and makes sure you are happy. Only a mile from the airport, which is very convienient especially for early morning flights. I will be back again when in San Jose.
Nice place, service outstanding
Finished up a two week tour of CA with a final night at the airport. Couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. 5 minutes from the airport (though quiet) with their free shuttle. Large, clean room. Great heated pool and spa. Excellent free continental breakfast. The service was outstanding. The manager went out of her way to make us feel welcome. Would highly recommend the place.
Great Value with a 46.00 AAA rate. Friendly competent staff, nice continental breakfast, close to airport, very clean. What more could you want?
