The last supper

Well this morning we woke to heavy heads and grey skies. A quick brekkie and we were off on the bus once more. We drove along the Dingle peninsula for a while, which some breathtaking cliffs and scenery. At one stage we got off the bus to take some photos, and Mike closed the doors and drove a little way down the road - enforcing some fresh air and exercise! We also got the opportuinity to climb a rather large hill, covered in sheep ...

Fairies and Leprechauns!

... and rivers - true postcard stuff. The weather again has been smiling on us and we enjoyed blue skies all day.

Michael our tour guide has continued to be a wealth of knowledge - in addition to the fairy stories, he's also told us legend of the white horses of Ireland and filled us in on the Potato Famine, which went for about 5 years and killed up to half of the Irish population - through disease, starvation or dying on the ...

Somewhere Over the Rainbow Way Up High...

... at the Railway Hostel,in a cute three-person room and just relaxed tonight...Because ours burnt out the night before, the first thing we needed to do was find a hair straightener when we woke up because heaven forbid Haley, Nicole and I not having a straightener while backpacking. Thats just how we roll while we're backpacking.

There are sooooo many rainbows here. We saw five yesterday. The sky is pitch black with a small ray of ...

Beating the Tour Buses

... Ireland because they’ll soon be too old to rent a car. They’re returning home next week by way of Dublin and they haven’t been to some of our favorite places along the way, so we shared information.

We’ve gone through all our clothes and have everything for our final days in one suitcase. We’re starting to get ready to go home, and while there’s still a lot to see and do, I think we’ll be happy when Saturday is here.

The Ring of Kerry

We decided to do the Ring of Kerry trip, a lovely trip around the south west cape of Ireland, approx 160 kms on our own than on a bus.. glad we did they were full of old Americans.. woops!! There was heaps here that we didn't see as we only had a few days until Amy had to head back to Australia. We did the ring in an anticlock wise direction, good in the fact eveyone else goes clockwise, bad because half way around ...

Stubborn as a Horse?

... fitting for our mood. Donnie, sensing our anxiety, again jumped in with us and tried to urge Tristan on. Spittle flying, he gave his commands, but Tristan would only trot long enough to give us a bit of a breeze and then slow down again. At times he would turn his head toward Donnie as if to ask, “Are you nuts?“ He was totally in control, and we were at his mercy! The boatman was waiting for us and told us to get our lunch quickly and have it wrapped--no dawdling there!. The ride ...

Killarney & more of Ireland's not so nice weather

... a little out of the main part of town to another retail park area - Deer Park. It wasn't looking that bad when we set off and we did wonder whether it would be a good idea.... but decided we didn't really have that much else to do... Hmmm, perhaps not the wisest decision we have ever made. By the time we got there we had walked through one hell of a down pour. We stepped into Tesco and just stood still dripping for a while, our jeans literally soaked through ...

... had a scone and a big pot of tea in this cute cafe with a fire. Lovely! Drove on to a very falic looking stone which if you rub your bottom on it is supposed to improve your fertility. Thought it was a load of rubbish but gave it a quick rub just to be on the safe side. I felt relieved when another bus turned up because I had a feeling it was just a joke Conrad was playing on us but they didnt go ...

End of Day #1

... strolled around and looked over Killarney. We saw many interesting street signs, , and also went past St. Mary's Cathedral. St Mary's Cathedral is a very interesting place and an extremely beautiful piece of architecture. , Well. . . I better finish up for tonight (It's pretty late here). I'll have a bunch of pictures for tomorrow.

Killarney

Now for the drive to the Southwest Coast, another three hour drive to play Waterville, Ballybunion Old Course and Ballybunion Cashen course. Our new home base is a Best Western Hotel in Killarney. Limited accommodations but the town is very friendly and a major tourist spot. Not something I am too keen on. However, it's the mid-point for our next three days.
