There is yet another fair in Basel right now, the Herbstmesse (Autumn Fair). It is huge! Carnival rides, food stalls, and booths selling trinkets are spread throughout the city. We went out at night to the Münsterplatz to see the action. Beforehand we visited Petersplatz to get raclette over potatoes and steaming Gluwein. Delicious! We also stopped in at the Barf ...

What a cynical man I can be sometimes. Makes for entertaining reading however.

This was what I really came to Europe for. Freiburg was just the beginning of an awesome adventure for me. The mountains and the forest and the cake. We caught a cable car up to the top of the mountain and wandered in the snow. Got some great photos. We made Freiburg our base and toured a fair bit around the region. ... sit on top of the heavy cheese in your stomach as it curdles. So instead you have to have some schnapps. I had no problem with this. They swear by it so who am I to argue. When in Rome, and all that. Once we polished off the wine and had our schnapps, we sat quiet and slightly overfed. We did eventually regain our speech. It was a fantastic evening! My first real introduction to Switzerland from two non-Swiss guys.

We hung out there with Markus and Inna and their baby Fabian. Craig played the piano a little and Markus played some accordion music on the computer and danced to it rather funnily. They were dressed in cute traditional dress too. At around 11pm we haded back and went to bed.

It was miserable..torture but it was done...now we just had to wait for everyone elseto get up so we could drive to Frankfurt. We had a long way to go, and a short time to get there!!!
