From here we are placed in a new, flash Holiday Inn car, a small Toyota people-mover of unfamiliar design, and taken around the corner to the new, and quite flash Holiday Inn. We are not used to this style of travelling, scored cheap, we hope, by our travel agent as part of our package.

We have just completed 3 days of steaming across this bathtub called the Indian Ocean. On the third morning we spot what almost appears to be an oasis. In the vastness of this ocean sits an island that is just less than 2 square miles in size that is crammed with the most colourful buildings and 100,000 people. Let me correct myself, it really doesn't stand alone. We are entering the Maldives and this one island is its capital, Male.
