... night celebrations are pretty common – we’ve now had a 12:30 AM fireworks display and, this morning, a 1:00 AM parade. With floats, loud music and spotlights. Sleep was not so easy…but the folks in the street seemed to be enjoying themselves!

On that particular day there was only one white female and that was me. I had my doubts as to the authenticity of the man who lead me away. These doubts were not eased when he took me to a car with no taxi sign, no working seatbelts and dodgy windows. He also spoke no English. Welcome to India!

This island country is very concerned about global warming and with every right. The highest elevation is less than ten feet above sea level. The ocean level recently rose 2 centimeters so there is a real fear the islands ...
