... Canal City before walking back to our hotel. We were pretty exhausted after a day of walking and shopping so we relaxed for a couple of hours before heading out for dinner. We didn't want to go very far, nor have too large a meal so we found the perfect place right across the street from our hotel - a place called Sukiya where they served simple one bowl meals called gyu-don, beef or pork cooked with vegetables served on top of rice. John had a delicious curry ...

It's unbelievable that such good quality beef is so ...

... me a book to give me some information on the food in English. By the end we were stuffed full. They are all so small but fill you up when there are so many! We had some sake we brought with us and saved some for the onsen too. We went to the three outdoor ones which were all quite different and spent the rest of the evening enjoying being in these toasty baths while looking at the stars. It really was one of the best experiences. When we got back to our room, our beds had ...

... the sun ( at last!) It was a typical Japanese affair, no shoes inside, your given a bag to carry them in during your visit, it was again very busy but very organised with people guided around pinch points to prevent overcrowding. The actual castle looked great with its white plaster cladding and decoration, all round a wooden frame as most if not all Japanese castles were? It made for a really good visit and the sunshine helped, ...
