... the heart of old Memphis where we find block after block of buildings either undergoing renovation or empty and up for lease. It is a low-rise city with most buildings between 5 to 10 floors. Many of the old buildings, dating from the turn of the century to the 1940's, have been cleaned up and exhibit beautiful stonework and detailing of the time, some are commercial and others converted to lofts and condominiums. The city is maintaining its ties to the past through ...

We browsed on over to Beale Street (home of the blues), took some pictures, grabbed some "Beale's Big Ass Beers" and sat down in a park to listen to some live blues music. #148 on life list: Walk down Beale St. in Memphis. The live music was great as always. This interesting character in a bright blue suit with hand done yellow writing wandered over and eventually started dancing solo. Being a huge fan of dancing myself, I went out ...

When I have checked with Rich which stories are for public consumption, I will come back with more, but, for now, that's all, and it doesn't seem to do the last fortnight justice but I have just wound up in Memphis after a 13 hour solo drive and the only thing to ponder on now is whether I sleep standing up or laying down, so for that I must apologise.

... proceeds go to them), there were so many busses going in and out and it was a weekday. We did the budget tour and looked over the fence, ha, ha. There were many other travellers doing the same. From the front of the property you could see the main house, the yard, entry way and stables. Across the street they had Elvis's planes, yep both of them, also on display. Totally cool.

... from Matta. We ate lunch here at the airport and Scott got a BBQ sandwich, while I went to a burger place because I wasn't feeling as brave. Then we tried to get our internet to hook up on our laptop for awhile, but we finally got it.
Here's a fun idea should you find yourself sitting and waiting at an airport: look for ...
Let me begin by saying my morning was far from smooth. It's hard to really think about that as I am shaking right now. Shaking because I couldn't wait any longer so I had to look at the score. Suffice to say, I am now getting strange looks for having such a big smile on my face. Can I even compose myself to write this? I am not so sure.
So my bus was due to leave Birmingham at 8am so I woke up at 6.20am which I ...
... for the trolley. In Graceland we saw the living room, the dining room, the kitchen, the jungle room, the guest room, the tv room in the basement, the Pool Billiard table, the jungle room again, then the garage where his dad had his office, the racket court, the pool and finally the graves of Elvis and other family members. It was nice to see it, but it is overrated, to pricy and smaller than expected. Still I am glad to have done it and know now what Graceland really is ...
Memphis, Tennessee, United States klompjes-krautz... to be gracious, but femininely gracious, which seem to have the attendant requirement to wear perfume and have bows on your slides and more jewelry than I would wear even to a wedding. I feel klutzy and impatient and underdressed. It'll be good to be home. The giant African American family reunion that checked in Friday when we did has decamped as of this morning, too bad, because they were lively and fun (envied them).
Memphis, Tennessee, United States lrandal... as we saw our driver return to the bus. We paid for the food we hadn't eaten, and to add insult to injury, we could see it being plated up as we left! After a much later lunch in the van, we decided to take the Sun studio tour," the birth place of Rock n Roll." This is where Elvis was discovered and where he made his early recordings along with others such as Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis and many more. On the bus back, there was ...
