Today was our first day at the Elementary Mathematics Laboratory. The EML is a course taught by Deborah Ball at The University of Michigan. About 100 educators have come together to think about teaching and learning. We started the morning hearing from Dr. Ball. She facilitated the pre-brief which oriented us to the work. She shared her lesson plan for what she was to teach to the 30 local rising fifth graders. Then, we had a chance to ask questions and think with her about ...

The cabin is close to the park - but the other side of the park. 20 mins to one entrance at Fontana Dam, 20 mins to the entrance at Deep Creek (tubing), about 45 mins to the other entrance at Oconoluftee. BUT took us 2.5 hrs to get from cabin to the Gatlinburg entrance. ...

The family was tired from yesterdays travels, so we slept in a bit before going for breakfast. Looking out our window we saw a movie production back lot. Trailers for actors and a dinning truck for meals. Did a quick search and found that "Transformers 4" is currently filming in downtown Detroit. In the car we are headed for Dearborn Michigan, world headquarters for Ford Motor Company and The Henry Ford museum. Only about 20 minutes from downtown. ...
