    Leaving Columbus and Fort Benning

A travel blog entry by sethfield on May 15, 2015

A couple days after going out with a bunch of my friends (Charlie, Chris, Matty, Adam, Mikey, Nigel, and Joe) to the Cannon Brew in downtown Columbus one last time, I finally signed out of Fort Benning and 2-16 Cav after close of business on Friday, May 15th and made the five-hour drive to Tupelo, MS, driving through a heavy rainstorm and impressive lightning storm along the ...

After a late lunch at a redneck-owned hole-in-the-wall barbeque spot west of Phenix City, we toured the Auburn campus briefly and got some photos with the statues outside Jordan-Hare Stadium before meeting up with Febus, Quinones, and some other ABOLC classmates for the game. ...

    ... deal to us.

We drove through all the roads, got out and walked among the "what would have been" spectacular azalea gardens, and went to the museum and the greenhouses, saw a bird show, the butterfly gardens, the Victory Garden South, and Mr. Cason's Garden; and made a full day of it anyway.

Definitely worth another stop at a better time of ...

... with them, but usually we just hung out at someone's apartment or house (usually the Holloways' or Adam and Mikey's up by Exit 12, or Charlie/Chris/Matty's house on post, or somebody's apartment at IP). However, in the last few months I made my way to the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum, which had some really cool exhibits about naval warfare in the Civil War, and to the National Infantry Museum, ...
