We headed out from the station, and Graeme was going to give us a short tour of the govt buildings, monuments, etc before heading over to Arlington, VA, where the motel was. We'd gone 3 or 4 blocks and things got confusing. We had to pull over to the side of the road to consult maps. I tried my GPS, but it was absolutely useless...it didn't show the names of streets....heck, it didn't,even show streets! I had upgraded the maps before ...
... city is the National Mall, a huge rectangular area bordered by government buildings. At the east is the Capitol Building which houses both the Senate and the House of Representatives. It is a spectacular building both inside and out that evolved over a 100 year. A well organised, informative and tightly controlled tour was the 'only' way to go. USNA is always amongst the most selective colleges in the country (18000 applicants; 1200 accepted). Also stopped by the Capital to take a night time photo. Its a beautiful building by night and as expected there are police cars all over the place. I should have gotten the tripod out because the photo I took with the long exposure is a bit blurry. Its just impossible to keep the hands real steady.
