This was our first tour of the day. It was chilly so the park ranger let us stay in the ranger office until the tour started. I had never been to President Van Buren's home before and I was impressed by the restoration, attention to details and all the information given by our guide. Emma and I had ...

There are scenic lookouts at various spots and we sampled the Hairpin Turn and climbed to Whitcomb Summit (in the car, I might add). The scenery was stunning and we enjoyed a brief picnic in the warm sun. Then back into North Adams before climbing up to the highest point in Massachusets, Mt Greylock (almost 4000 ft up), with views ...

... murky, grey, dark clouds and a lot of surface water. The other notable feature of the day was the towns we passed through or by en route - Manchester, Liverpool, Rome, Syracuse, Waterloo, Utica and Troy to name but a few.
We did hop off for a dose of historical culture, however, at Johnson Hall, where a British settler, Sir William Johnson, forged relationships with the native Indians in the Mohawk Valley. ...
