We then entered the original village which is a very sobering experience. Everything has more or less been left as it was after the massacre became known to the world. There are burnt out and rusted cars in the streets and in garages. The bakers shop still has rusted scale ...

... in Europe and view 360-degree sights of Paris. We had only 40 minutes here, but the experience was terrific and really helped us get our bearings for our 3-night stay in Paris.

After that it was onto a Canal boat cruise along the Seine River and the views were again lovely. This boat carried many passengers and we were fortunate John was able to position us in a great spot on the boat.

... the actual site is closed to the public, an interpretation centre in the village includes a full size replica of the frieze. Nearby, we visited a famous abbey in Saint Savin, the medieval city of Chauvigny, plus the National Park Brenne, the towns of Le Blanc and Montmorillon. Spots of rain after breakfast came as a shock but had passed by11.30 so we took the opportunity to go on the bikes as planned for today. We cycled to the small but pretty town of St Loup and although the round trip was less than ten miles there were a lot of hills to tackle and the heat was excessive. ... any fresher? There has been a market on this site since before 1370 when the present one replaced a wooden one. There is a sense of community here as everyone appears to know everyone else, a meeting place for locals who welcome strangers with the same friendly manner they have for each other. A very nice market, one of my favourites!
