... but it was all those things and more. We had to do some serious rock hopping; clambering in a steep, narrow ravine; scaling an eighty foot hanging ladder to reach the spot where we could look down into the rushing waters. The footpaths into the Drakensberg are reminiscent of Middle Earth, from "The Lord of the Rings." Although Tolkien left South Africa when he was very young, some scholars insist this area inspired his imagination. It is ...
... The next three hours were spent slowly walking around and enjoying various themed gardens. I really enjoy visiting parks and gardens, a very peaceful time. At the Nels River viewpoint we could see where the Nels River meets with the Crocodile River. There were also many Strangler Figs – each tree is very unique from another, an interesting sight.

They weren't being very active and we got some good close-up shots. The 'game plan' (yes, it's a bit punny) is to be up by 5pm and turn on the lights so Craig knows that we're up. He leaves about 5:10am to get in line to be as close to first out the gate when they open at 6am. We're to walk up to the front (good thing we have flashlights) and join him before 6am or he's "leaving without us." So I set multiple alarms so we don't screw up the plan on our first full day in Kruger.
