Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France cariverga... with hundreds of little wax demons. Next a woman and a fiddler practicing flying from a crane. When we were given a programme we went to various Happenings. A band giving a funeral service to L'escargots which they both cooked and served while they continued to play. The city was full of feathers and people dressed as either angels and demons or both. In the evening we went to a couple of performances which were totally ...

Hello,
We left Blois on Sunday Afternoon, and headed to Angers where my Mon & Dad are from. That is where my gran parents are leaving also. We plan to stay for 5 days in Angers (and around) before aheading to "les Sables d'olonnes" a beach town on the Atlantic coast.
... scandalous. It appears that mum and daughter carry a kit bag each and the rest of the family just ride between caravan sites. C'est fantastic not to be intimidated. The kids seem pretty good too. There are wine tastings, caves to explore and castles to visit here but not on sundays or out of season. But its definitely warmer and the forecast for the next couple of days is good. I'm up by the chateau scouting ...
Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France i_could_walk... me in range of Tours which has a youth hostel. The next couple of stops look sorted. Anyway despite the grim start and general dreariness of the rest of the day there were indeed castles, caves, churches and a restaurant in a mine. There are also some other tourists. Most of the tasting / cave places are on their off season hours so close for lunch. The bike route id signposted but idiosyncratically; on sign said Samur 6km by road and 9km by bike route ...
Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France i_could_walk... although inside its much less imposing. That said it does have an enormous tapestry and fantastic views from the ramparts. The sun was now out and sun creme was required. After the castle I headed for the tourist office; used their loo and browsed the "cycling the loire" books. This was to be a theme but the best one was E12 for something the size of a ladybird book. So I went to look around town to find a bookshop and eventually bought the same book at the full ...
Angers, Pays de la Loire, France i_could_walkWhen we first planned this trip it was going to be a bicycle ride from Lands End to John O'Groats in England. Then my back began to play up (just the thought of the weather perhaps, and struggling up the Scottish mountains in the rain) Anyway, that one has been put off until a later time, so we then planned to cycle through the Loire Valley which is nice and flat. But H wanted to see where the Tour de France was going so it changed again! And voila, here we are ...
St Germaine sur Viennes, France karana... luggage around the airport, I reluctantly agreed to the reservation from the Montparnasse station. Once I arrived to CDG, I had the mistaken notion that that would be the bulk of the journey to Angers. Oh, no no. From the airport I went to the RER, and could barely fit all my luggage through the narrow entrances. Quite embarrassing. I adjusted quickly to the amount of people who were staring at me. After I had the help of a few very kind people, I ...
