... bullfrogs are busy chattering all around you adding to the atmosphere. I would not have thought that the atmosphere could be topped, but the food and service did just that. Several waiters are constantly busy doting on you to make sure that you have everything you require. They are there just when you need them, but are unobtrusive at the same time. After feeling slightly stuffed from breakfast I spent the morning exploring museums and the cathedral in the colonial zone. There are many sights in Santo Domingo which are the first of the Americas including the Cathedral and the first hospital (although it's in ruins now). The Museo de las Casas Reales was packed full of info on Colón and the Spanish conquistadores. There was an interesting section on ...

... church, Cathedral of Santo Domingo, was ornate and looked as though it belonged in Europe.

On another day, we took a boat to Saona Island as part of a tour where we are bbq, fruit and collected seashells that we brought home with us. We went through a cave complex (called Los Tres Ojos) with crystal clear blue ponds and fossils all around. On our way home, we stopped at a tobacco farm, and for Dave this might have been the highlight of the trip. He'd grown his ...
