    ... would be a pity to kill them. Stopped at Tarr Steps. This is down a narrow winding road to the River Barle where there is a clapper bridge over the river. Legend has it that it was built by the devil to win a bet and you cannot pass when he is sunning himself. We had no problems getting across and going for a nice circular walk up the river and back .     ... in America. Next drove along back roads to Stoke and Newton Ferris both places little villages tucked away amongst the hills. Continued on to the pretty town of Modbury, through Kingsbridge and the very small village of Buckland Tout Sands ( photo of yellow thatched cottage). Continued to drive along coast road through Torness to Dartmouth a nice seaside town with so many yachts moored as do most of the villages.     ... at times gently, and at others aggressively. Saw our first squirrel. Have been surprised at the lack of wildlife having seen none at all in Ireland apart from a few deer at Killarney by the lake. Walk passes through lovely woodland on the uphill side, then goes steeply down to the river and passes the White Lady Waterfall. This fall is a narrow fall that drops 30m down a narrow tributary to the main river. Then the path follows along the valley floor to the Tunnel Falls. Here ...
